Has anyone hunted Fimbiri lately. My son and I are hunting Fimbiri in May. My only previous hunt in the BVC was at Ngali. We spent nearly all of our time in the southern half of the conservancy. So I haven't seen the Fimbiri Camp or the terrain. Any info would be appreciated. TBD Go Duke!!

Decent camp on a hill top with a great view. Excellent buffalo hunting and plainsgame.

Not much response to your question, so I'll chip in even though my stay at Fimbiri was 7 or 8 years ago. I've enjoyed stays at Nengo, Fimbiri and Deyers. All were way more than adequate regarding facilities, service and food. And, all had uniquely different and interesting settings with the small lake abutting Nengo, Fimbiri's hilltop location and beside the Bube River. My experience suggests equally good chances for desired game from any of them. Also, lion were not on my lists, but they came into play in some exciting enough ways on all three trips. If I were headed back tomorrow, I'd be happy to take a blind draw for any of those three camps... Good hunting,

If you hunt the Bubye then surely you hunt the whole concession? Or is it subdivided? ROYAL KAFUE LTD Email - kafueroyal@gmail.com Tel/Whatsapp (00260) 975315144 Instagram - kafueroyal

Each camp has its own allocated area. Multiple camps. Hunted Chamalaya previously. No one was hunting in the adjoining areas so we where able to hunt them as well.

OK I just thought you hunted the whole conservancy and had access to a million acres? I know it is fenced but did not realise it was subdivided into small plots. ROYAL KAFUE LTD Email - kafueroyal@gmail.com Tel/Whatsapp (00260) 975315144 Instagram - kafueroyal

I ve been to most of the BVC camps for visits and my favorite is Fimbiri. I m going there in July again. Love the view to glass in the midday. You hear lions very well below or leopard hunting the hilltop at night. Fishing in the “dam” for perch is great while animals come to drink. Dove and sandgrouse shooting is great so is night hunting if you like. Ask to be taken up to the top of the Mtikozi rock hill that looks over the one dam. Watch a sunset from there. I ve loved the buffalo hunts in the Fimbiri area. While you ll mostly be in the Fimbiri area you can ask to visit other camps. Lots of plains but less nyala although I ve seen there. Lots of lion, leopard, elephants, rhino. Who s your PH?

Me too. I've been based in Nengo and Ngali on my hunts, but have hunted other camp areas for specific animals where the other clients were not targeting a certain species, but only first with the specific permission of the PH that had the clients there, or if there is no one staying in a particular camp, then with Blondie's permission. We were also told 'no' once by a PH with no reason given. I was in Nengo hunting on one occasion when I took my spotted Hyena, and subsequently another hunter from another camp was granted permission to then night hunt a hyena in our area, as there were other hyenas available. I can think of bushbuck, warthog and honey badger as being hunted in a different camp area than the one that I stayed in during my hunts. However, you are usually based in a specific camp in regards to the game that you have come to hunt.

Andrew,
Just to clarify, I don't recall any interior fences. The 'subdivision' appeared to be well understood on the ground by the PHs, and I can remember a couple of occasions when tracking we reached fairly obscure roads or trails that demarked our area and meant we had to turn back. There were many more occasions when we had permission to go to other areas to focus on particular species. Over three trips, that allowed visits to many/most of the other camps but I don't every recall seeing other hunters in that process. I understood that lion hunters had prerogative to go into any areas and I recall coordination with my PH for that on one occasion. It didn't impact our hunt in any way that I discerned. Good hunting,

I believe that a couple of the camps are fenced. Ngali was fenced due to problems with lions coming right into camp. It had just been fenced before I arrived to hunt. The lions were still noisy and fighting right outside the camp at night. I think that I remember the main camp (where Charles and Chelsea Davey had lived) being fenced due to it being where the game was processed, the anti-poaching headquarters there, etc. Blondie Leatham's Mazunga headquarters was also partly fenced, as I recall, since they rehab black rhinos there. But there are no internal fences to speak of. The large double fence around the entire outside of the BVC is electrified, I believe, per Zim government regulations. The BVC is pure heaven!

PH s like John Sharp who sometimes post are much more knowledgeable (John helped setup NE BVC ) but I believe the only interior fence, other than the roads to BVC is at the far NE in the Malangani area where there is a fishing camp of the same name and that s to keep the lions out I was told. I friend took a really old skull cap there since the lions had not gotten to it. But there is something special to tracking an animal, in this case eland, and finding you on the track of a lion that is also tracking the same quarry. Heightens the senses even more!
