Thinking of taking my freedom arms 454 to Mozambique this year... Tony says I can get it through SA with a scope on it... what about Moz?

Are handguns permitted (for hunting?)

I have taken two world records and a Buff with a handgun in Mozambique and have friends who have also done. Only problem can be in transiting RSA where the handgun must clearly be a "hunting handgun". A mounted scope will ensure this interpretation, IMO. Best of luck with your handgun hunt in Mozambique - you'll do well.

I long for the days when my 3" S&W Mdl. 29 could go into RSA with me and the permit allowed concealed carry with less paperwork than taking a rifle mandates today.

Just got a rsponse from Toni Wicker/Nyati Safaris. He says he's had several handgun hunters and that it is no problem.

Wuz wunderin - Do "records" like the heavy cover? What is minimum calibre for huntin "records"? What is the main difference between "world records" and the common "records"?

Pancho,

The term "world record" means a new #1. That is how I've always understood the term. I know you're just being a smart-ass and you can't help yourself, but really? animal

No problem -- I've done a lot of hunting there with handguns -- never even packed a rifle.

When you get bored with life, start hunting dangerous game with a handgun.

So is a scope required in Moz or just in SA?

Not required in either, but the requirement that any handgun coming into RSA must be a "hunting handgun", makes a scope help the definition - not concealable is not mentioned but I believe that is part of the RSA issue. If you are taking a S&W 460 or 500 with a 8.5" barrel, I doubt you'd have a problem. On the other hand, trying to convince RSA your 1911 is a "hunting handgun" will be problematic.

PM inbound to you.

A scope MAY be required in Moz, if you intend to actually hit something?? dancing Good luck and good hunting.
