Hunting company gives 8.6m/- support to Rufiji conservation society

A tourist hunting company, Game Frontiers of Tanzania Limited (GFTL), has provided communication equipment to a wildlife conservation society operating in Ngarambe and Tapika villages in Rufiji District, Coast Region.

The assistance given to the society called Mungata was intended to boost patrol activities in the protected areas and surrounding communities.

Speaking at the handover that took place in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, GFTL managing director Mohsin Abdallah said the equipment, that included two motorcycles and a radio communication, all worth 8.6m/-, would enable Mungata members to perform their duties more efficiently.

He said the society had for a long time played a commendable role, in collaboration with government agents, to ensure poaching was controlled in the protected areas.

`This society is one of our main stakeholders in the hunting business. We, as a tourist hunting company, are obliged to support them,` he said, adding:`We have been supporting them in water projects, school fee for their children and allowances for members who are on duty during patrols`.

He urged the society to use the equipment for the intended purpose, saying: ` I expect you to handle the equipment with care.

Mungata chairperson Salum Mkele thanked the company for the assistance and promised to use it for the intended purpose.

`This is not the first time that the company has given us assistance. We thank the MD and his staff for the support.`
