Friends,
What/who would you rate as the very best outfitter and hunting area in nortwestern corner (ie close to Vic Falls) of Zimbabwe. Planning a quick 3 buffaloes hunt when at a conference at Vic Falls in early June. Thank you!

Vic Falls is in the SW corner. You may want to try Russell Caldecott (he does safari for parapalegics) but he may hook you up witha good PH. ultimate@africaonline.co.zw.

John Sharp has a very good reputation. Not sure where he is located though.

Jo,

I'm sure that John Sharp can arrange something - I know he hunts a couple places up there. Although I have not hunted buffalo with John - only plains game - several regulars here have and will likely chime in. He is top notch!!

Early June is a bit short notice so I'd contact him right away although he is probably enroute to the SCI show now. If John can't accomodate you I'm sure he will steer you to someone you can trust to delivery a great (and LEGAL) hunt.

Good luck.

Phil

Check with Matapula Safaris. Their US agent is Tom Morrison of Sporting International. Both Tom and Matapula are first rate.
They must have moved the falls since I was last there. I thought they were in the northwest also.

God moved the Falls yesterday! Didn't you hear about the change? The river must have been moved also.

Brooklands Safaris has an area in the Deka, near Vic Falls.
I will be hunting there this March. When I get back I will let you know how the area is.

Try Bushman Safaris. He has a concession in the Matetsi and has quite a few Buff on quota this year. Only about 45minutes from Vic Falls. Very nice area with good elephant, sable and Buff.

Smiler I was only in Zimbabwe once (Chirisa district) and that was way back in 1993 - so I hesitated to say anything about Victoria Falls as now being in SW. I am so impressed ( and rightly so) with most of the Africa "vets" that I didn't dare to post a timid suggestion that maybe somebody moved the Falls (and the river) since my time! Smiler Thank you for restoring my sanity! Smiler

I've heard Out of Africa Safaris is a top notch outfit who abides by the letter of the law. Something tells me they will be offering discounts as well. lol

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A JOKE. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!

jo, Check out John Sharp ... http://www.john-sharp-safaris.com at booth 148 (SCI Reno). I hunted with him in the Dande area for Buff and got a 40". I think he also has a Buff area close to where you will be. The Matetsia area is an hour drive from Victoria Falls. But double check with him.
Good luck!..steve

Jo,

I'll certainly second Matupula Hunters operation. Visit the Sporting International booth in Reno, Dallas or Houston as Mark Butcher will be there representing Matupula. Get in touch early, as I understand what few bookings they still have available for '06 aren't expected to last long!

Best of luck...

Mark

Do your homework and find out who has the lease on the concession. Several of the Matetsi Units are controlled by persons on the US Government's sanction list. Meaning, you can't legally hunt there (assuming you are an American).

Terry

I know a guy who has been to AFRICA 15 times since 2002, hunting all Big 5 and lots of other game. He's used http://www.tshabezisafaris.com DUDLEY ROGERS licensed 1986, (WELL EXPERIENCED) per T. Carr's list (in DALLAS TX - USA this month) in ZIM for 5 Trophy Bull Ellies and I think for BUFF's.

Don't use HHK Safaris. Their prices are high enough and I'm trying to keep my costs down for my next 3 hunts with them.

Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent.
