I'm waiting for the illuminated version to mount on my .416 ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." Terry Pratchett.

It appears that it is available. Have a look at Bear Basin. The illuminated model is called Z6i 1-6 x 24 EE. US$1889 doesn't sound too bad IMO. Note that the regular model (without the "EE") has the usual 9.0 cm eye relief.

But won't the view through the EE model look funky when mounted in the normal position? I'm thinking tunnel vision.

I'm hoping the link below will take you to the technical specifications: http://www.swarovskioptik.com/index.php?l=en&css=&c=pro...uktname=Z6%20/%20Z6i _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

The FOV should decrease as the eye relief increases. That is the tradeoff.

Erik, What do you mean by usual eye relief? 9.5 cm equals approx. 3.75 inches. The usual eye relief with PH Swarovski's is 8 CM or 3.15 Inches? The AV's ar 9 CM or 3.5". I have the AV's on my rifles because I did not like the eye relief of the PH models. The big selling point of the Z6 in all models is the eye relief to me. I was looking at one for a .404 Jeffery to replace a Leoupold. Not trying to be argumentitive maybe I am misssing something in the conversions? Mike

Tradewinds, have you had any trouble with the 3.5" eye relief on your scope?

Mike, Sorry for the mix up. It was a typo. I meant 9.0 cm (3.5 inches). And usual as in what is common with most of todays European scopes.

The way I interpret the specs is that there is a "regular" model ZR which comes in both standard reticles (ZR) and illuminated models (ZRi) and the extended eye relief models EE which also come with standard or illuminated reticles. The specs show the trade off in reduced field of view for the EE models. This said, 100 ft at 100 yards ain't bad field of view, it's just less than 127 feet. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

No the 3.5 works fine for me. A few years back I had three Leoupolds break in two years. So I decided to try some European scopes. I wanted the same scope on 4 of my main hunting rifles. I purchased two Swarovski scopes, one PH and on AV. To make a long story short I ended up with (4) 4-12-50 TDS scopes and (1) 3-10-42. They all mount in low Talley Rings and I like the constant eye relief, they work for me. When I throw my rifles up the eye relief is perfect no matter what the magnification with the AV. THe Ph did not work for me. That being said I like more eye relief on my big bore rifles, so I have leoupolds on thoose rifles for now. Plus they do not make a lower powered DG Scope in the AV Line. Now I will look at the Z6 line.

Tradewinds, thanks for the reply. I just (15 min ago) purchased a Kahles 1.1-4 CSX. It has 3.6" eye relief. I don't tend to crawl a stock, and this rifle will have a 14" pull, so it should be just fine.

My rifles are either 14 or 14 1/2" LOP.

Has anyone seen one of the 1-6 X mounted on a Rigby length action? I noticed that Cabelas had them for sale last week when the new catalog arrived and was interested for my rebarreled CZ550. FOV is more important to me than anything. Andy

Just ordered a 1.7-10x42 Plex Reticle AND a 1-6x24 EE 4 reticle from Doug at: Doug gr8fuldoug@aol.com Camera Land 212-753-5128 www.cameralandny.com Can't wait. Looks like I will be selling some Leupold scopes on the classifieds pretty soon. Tim

Andy, My friend Joel has a 1.5-6 Swaro PH mounted on his 450 Dakota, using Talley mounts. I'd assume these new models will be similar in size.

Thanks John, The Zeiss 1.5 x 6 x 42 is the only PH I have found that will fit the CZ action. The CZ might be longer between bases than the Dakota? The Zeiss was about 3/8 inch longer between the occular and objective than the other German 1.5 x 6's I looked at after returning from Zim in 2005, and it did fit just barely. If anyone has the new 1-6 x 30mm could you post here what the length of the 30mm tube is minus ocular. Many thanks. Andy

Looks to be 8.15" for the "EE" model and 7.79" for the standard model, based on the Spec book that just came with my Z6 1.7-10x 42

Shumba, Thanks very much! That is plenty long enough. (About 2.5 inches longer than the 1.5 x 6 PH's I have been looking at. Now, where is the cheapest place to buy one???? Andy

Shumba, can you tell us what the overall length of the 1 - 6 scope is? If I understood your reply to Andy the approx. 8" is just the tube length, right? _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Do a side by side comparison of the Z6 and the new Leupold VX7s that sell for about 1300 or so. The difference in FOV is substantial in favor of the Swaro while the Leupold has a slight (varying) edge in eye relief. I'm thinking Swaro for me. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member
