Does anyone have any knowledge of a travellers survey conducted at O. R. Tambo airport on May 17, 2011? While awaiting my return flight home at the departure gate I was approached & agreed to be part of a survey on visitors to South Africa. I was asked to provide info on my visit to South Africa; nature of visit (with preselected categories which DID NOT INCLUDE HUNTING), length of stay, area(s) visited, approximate monies spent, any plans for a return visit. Upon my insistence the interviewer included HUNTING as a subcategory as a reason for visit. (He did show me the results on his laptop after the interview that included hunting.) I overheard the interview of a fellow passenger; HE TOO DEMANDED THAT HUNTING VISITS BE CATEGORIZED AS SUCH & NOT LUMPED IN WITH GENERAL TOURISM. I ask the subject question after briefly scanning the post by Saeed in the Lion Mgmt. forum; in that post Saeed refers to an anti-hunting report in SA that is replete with assumptions and some flatout lies. Although I have no data I suspect that hunting provides MUCH MORE MONEY to South African economy than is implied in the antis report. This survey could dispell some of these anti misgivings (IF IT IS USED TRUTHFULLY). (My quick visual survey of the gate departure area (about two hours before takeoff revealed about 40% were hunters (dress & mannerisms). | ||
