A very well written obituary of Peter Beard. The comments are just as interesting and some very well written as the obituary.

Seems like he experienced it all. I love this line... “You never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough.”

I have a copy of "End of the Game" around here somewhere. God rest his soul, possibly after a scolding by Saint Peter ...

Cool

I’ve been pondering what book to read next and since I have both The End of the Game and Eyelids of Morning, I guess I’ll read one of them.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Peter Beard, his was a life well lived.

Sad news. When I was at the University of Texas Law School, they had little side areas in the library with antique furniture donated by alumni and they put "coffee table books" around to read when you were on a break. "Eyelids of Morning" caught my attention in the mid 1980's. A marvelous and at the same time horrifying book. Was before my first trip to Africa, but as a result of that book, and subsequent experience, I'm bloody terrified of crocs. His photos are amazing. He left quite a legacy and that's all any of us can hope for.

One thing for sure, he didn't leave anything out in his life because he tried a little of everything the world had to offer.

I'm not a fan of putting on the rose colored glasses when someone passes, but this obituary went a bit too far in telling it's "truth".

I'm not sure that it was necessary to cite so many specific moments where he was less than "politically correct". It kinda felt like a hatchet job.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

I thought it was a very good obituary of a life lived to it’s fullest. Fitting tribute to a very interesting man.
