does hyena population could menace the lion population in africa? i newly saw a video about lions in africa and become surprised by seeing packs of hyena forcing lions to leave their quary. in video they said that lions may suffer hunger and extiction , because of hyenas. these hyenas are not just stupid stinking animals , but can be clever and organise simultaniouse attack on lions and leopards forcing them to runawy and give up Eeker

The study of animal population dynamics is a good second most interesting subject, after astronomy, Wink that one could waste time on! Animal populations are in a constant 'disequilibrium' striving to adjust to a more equitable situation, but never reaching anything even near a true equilibrium! It is quite possible that at some stage the number of lions in an area will be decreasing as a result of many factors, but of which one may very well be competition from spotted hyenas! But, in nature an ‘overshoot’ in the adjustment process is natural, and the tide will eventually change! Then spotted hyena numbers will again decrease due to, amongst other, lion numbers. Remember that is in not just lion and spotted hyena numbers that regulate each other, it is always the whole complex system of climate, rain, soil, vegetation, grazers, browsers, other scavengers, and all predators in an intricate forever out-of-balance, but striving for 'balance’ that determines the up or down, or even a period of near constant numbers, movement of numbers of any species at any time.

But the short answer to your question is: Yes, spotted hyenas can influence lion numbers!

In good hunting.

After a few years of participation on forums, I have learned that:

One can cure:

Lack of knowledge – by instruction. Lack of skills – by practice. Lack of experience – by time doing it.

One cannot cure:

Stupidity – nothing helps! Anti hunting sentiments – nothing helps! Put-‘n-Take Outfitters – money rules!

My very long ago ancestors needed and loved to eat meat. Today I still hunt!
