Technically, no. Zim waffled between allowing some skin for tanning, hair for bracelets etc. But when I last spoke with PH's regarding the matter they said nothing could be imported.

I'm sure most PAC elephant hunters are wearing a bracelet when they come home - if you're catching my drift. Problem is, most smaller cows I've seen don't have very long tail hair, so some of the PAC animals would not even lend themselves to any being made.

You may be right but it would not be wise to admit so in a public forum! Cool

It's not getting them that's the problem, it's the fact that we can't send them overseas because of the CITES thing. - Of course, if you come to Africa then all you have to do is wear it on your wrist as you travel home....... Even if it were spotted by customs & irritations, they almost certainly wouldn't know what it was...... But it is illegal...

Sorry Steve that is no longer the case. You must declare any wildlife parts you are bringing in to the US. If you don't declare it on the customs form and they find it (the dogs will find it, I promise) you are then guilty of smuggling.

US Customs were allowing you to bring in an elephant hair bracelet up to last year. I have read that they will no longer allow you to bring one in unless you have the CITES paperwork to go with it.

I was under the impression you could bring elephant products, other than Ivory, back from Zim legally.

At least you used to be able to.

One might place a bracelet or more in a zip lock bag inside another and place it in a bag with dirty underwear or socks. Just a thought.

Drug dealers have tried that and many other ways to foil dogs. Seldom if ever works.

You must be kidding, right? That's definitely not for me. However, I have a PH friend that both he and his wife have large cape buffalo tatoos on the backs of their left shoulders. To each his own I guess.

I would think you could just wear it on your wrist and no one would give it a second glance.

No not really.
I just wanted to see how many diferent opinions popped out on the subject. I don't think I ever would, but then I never thought I would do a lot of the things I have done.

Those are pretty classy bracelets.

Not sure about wearing one if it didn't come from an elephant I shot...but then I've got elephant ivory on a couple of handguns...and I haven't even been to Africa yet Wink

FWIW,
My view on the wearing of elephant hair bracelets is, if you did not shoot the elephant, wearing the bracelet would be akin to wearing a university tie of a university you did not attend, or the wearing of a regimental tie of a regiment your were not a memebr of.
All three are infra dignitatem.
My only exception would be if the bracelet were a gift from the person who had shot the elephant.
