I just received notification this is available. Having seen the preview of it on "Boddington on Buffalo", I assume it's of the same quality content. And over 3 hours long. Anyone else plan on aquiring it?

Should be interesting since as you probably know if you followed Craig's writing he has had a heck of a time with leopards. I can't remember the enormous amount of days he sat in a blind without even seeing one. I also seem to remember that he wounded one but retrieved it, just creased one and it got away and shot one called in with a varmint call. Mark MARK H. Ok, so I got my copy and it is mostly talk and commercials. You can put it on the TV in the background and and not miss too much.... ~~~ Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

I bought it and watched it. It is pretty full of commercials and a lot of talking, but very educational. "There are worse memorials to a life well-lived than a pair of elephant tusks." Robert Ruark

I watched mine last night. 30 minutes of information packed into three hours. BORING just like like most of Bodingtons stuff. I didn't say incorrect or bad just DULL!

I've only watched about half of it so far. It is a bit on the dull side, but there is also a lot of good information. Andrew Dawson is probably the most meticulous baiter that I have ever seen or heard of. A real master ... never mind.

The video sounds just like leopard hunting - days of boredom, followed by a few minutes of supreme excitement.

Well having been laid up this weekend I soent the time to watch ,and re-watch his dvd's including the one on Lepard,, having never been there I must say that the PH, did an outstanding job explaining thngs, I understood and like the rest he was using in the blind,, was surprised that he and the Col liked the 06 for that cat. Point of correction, Craig Boddington is now a General. In any case wasn't that Cooper arms 06 Craig was carrying a gorgeous rifle? Really like the looks of that little bugger. My wife even commented on how "pretty" the stock was. I also noticed that Craig had traded that single shooter off for a bolt gun during his blood trailing sequence. Craig might be sponsored by Dakota arms but he didn't get to the rank of general by being stupid!

Surestrike, Are you sure? That was reported prematurely once before, so just checking. http://www.usmc.mil/genbios2.nsf/0/ec3b0fe118c697138525...?OpenDocument&Click=

I was a bit surprised at all the "prep work" that went into it. Hanging the bait at a certain angle, tree selection and backlighting considerations, extensive path clearing, mounted rifle rests. Understood, I suppose all necessary for that one important shot and to avoid a nasty follow-up of a wounded leopard. Seems very "unsporting" though, might as well just set up a trip wire and an IED or dig a pit and shoot him when he falls in. ~~~ Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

Just rewatched the firearm section, he states its a Miller single shot/ division of Dakota Arms. No disrespect meant to the COl. Did they use a gun vise in the leopard blind in order to eliminate the variable known as "marksmanship"?

Yes, they did. It was a nice vice, though. ~~~ Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

Even if long, how much sitting in a blind twiddling your thumbs can you put in a film anyway? It sounds like a good "educational" video about leopard hunting. I might buy one for that alone.

In the Safari Hunter II book, it says that Boddington is a Brigadier General I think in the USMC reserves. Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent. DRSS .470 & .500

That might just be one of the premature reports. The USMC website says he was selected for promotion to B.Gen. That was in 2001 or 2002. However, the U.S. Senate has not acted on his promotion yet, so it has not actually occurred. (Kind of like Bush nominating someone to the Supreme Court, but the Senate does not act to confirm that person.) Maybe the Senate will act, and maybe not. There is no way to know.

In addition to being a nice guy, Craig is in fact a "Brigadier General Select" and is suppose to be called Colonel until the "Select" is removed. My understanding is that happens when a vacancy of some particular type is made. I believe he was selected in 2001. Just FYI.

I watched it again. It REALLY is boaring, but also a wealth of information, and Andrew Dawson is a master cat hunter. The tape should only be 45 minutes long, with less bull-shitting in camp chairs, and it would be great. Boddington is an awesome writer, but not a dynamic speaker.

The DVD lists the runtime as 3 hours and 45 minutes. I agree it could have been compressed into less than an hour. ~~~ Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

While I thought the video could have been a bit shorter, for a person anticipating his first leopard hunt, it was very interesting. Dawson goes to what I thought were extreme measures for his client to assure success.

I watched the DVD this morning and enjoyed it very much...Too long? Maybe some would say so, but I enjoyed it and found it very educational and showed what lengths a really good PH goes to when dealing with leopard. A lot of the European hunting videos are only 45minutes to an hour long and I much prefer this longer format... I would say the product placements are a bit more subtle than in "Boddington on Buffalo" which is very welcome... With regards the shooting vise, not only did they show the fancy new one they're using, but some of the older footage showed a DIY version that fixed to a cross bar of the blind. From that I deduce that Dawson really likes his clients to have a good shooting rest! Regards, Pete

OK, I am curious but not willing to spend the cash for a video that I only will look at once. If anyone has copies of these two videos and will rent them to me for a few days let me know. Maybe that way I will not feel guilty for hitting the Fast Forward button! ****************************************************************** R. I have not seen the leopard DVD, so I cannot comment, but I found his Buff DVD excellent, and the beauty of DVD is just skip the bits you dont enjoy. Better a 3 hour DVD with boring but informative parts to it, than 45 min of action only!!

I really enjoyed the Buffalo video. I like the longer format as well. With DVD you can skip around as you wish. I have a few videos that are 'all action' and they are fun to watch - but not very educational. I think his point with the longer talking time was to provide a lot more background info for the hunter who is planning his first buffalo hunt. There are lots of things in it that help explain the hows and whys that just can't be hit on in a 60 minute shooter film. Much better to get a grip on this before getting into the hunt and trying to figure it out on the fly. I'm going to get the leopard one also. If it follows the same rules, it should be excellent. ============================== "I'd love to be the one to disappoint you when I don't fall down" --Fred Durst

I can't comment on the two DVDs by boddington, but I can comment on Andrew Dawson. He is one of the most sucessful Leopard PHs in Africa today, and a full equal to Franz Coupe. Dawson's prefab blind is a very well designed, and being lined with a poly tarp give you some ability to move about to rid yourself of cramps, without the cat seeing your shadow move behind the bush outside walls. Sounds like these two films are a little like the TV shows on hunting, that are nothing more than infomercials. Still, I'd far rater have that than those "RACK, AND STACKUM" type films that show nothing but killing. To me a sfari is more than just shooting animals. It alol comes as a package, with camp chatter, fine meals, tracking, blind building, bait collecting, in between the meet, and greet, and the final fairwell at the airport! It may simply be my personality, but I enjoy the details involved in the whole SAFARI. One thing I doubt you will get with CB is chest beating "LOOK AT ME" crap you get with one other PH's films. I'll Buy them both, and see for myself! Any Leopard film interests me, because that is my next Safari! By the way the single shot rifle used in this film by Boddington is being given away. If you buy the Leopard DVD from OUTDOOR VISIONS, you are automaticlly intered in the drawing for this rifle. ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith
