Gunstix Target

reddy375Gunstix Target
I shot this group yesterday!
100 Yards off Gunstix shooting sticks. 12 shots with a 30-06 Tikka, shooting 150 grain handloads.
Doubt any tri-pod rest can beat the steadiness of quad legged sticks. Order one at
www.gunstix.com before the prices go up!

fulvioThe classic African tripod bound together with a strip of rubber has always proved to be reliable and done the job as long as the shooter's composure and aim is true.
I have witnessed many misses or botched shots on both our rudimentary tripods as well as the fancy ones.
Aiming supports however are a matter of personal choice that is often regulated by the "gift of the gab" within the marketing sector which in reality acquired the idea from the traditional African Shooting Sticks.

I have found quite a few Austrian clients preferring a "mono stick" - possibly because they use a sturdy staff while trekking/hunting in their mountainous regions, using the same as an aiming support when the need arises.

lavacaFulvio,
I've got a funny one on traditional sticks. Was in Simanjiro in 2012 and shot a buffalo quartering to. Good hit, but he ran off. We ran after and he pulled up looking straight at at us, head high, blood coming out of his nose. The tracker threw up the sticks and the innertube came loose and the whole arrangement came to pieces. It was an interesting moment but ended well with a frontal shot. Seeing those sticks fall apart is hilarious now.

Sooner or later through wear and tear, we all fall apart.

lavacaIt wasn't immediately hilarious as the tracker spread the sticks and as soon as I put the rifle on it they exploded. But it all ended well and that is when the hilarity set in. We got some new innertube.

SaeedNot half as bad as our tracker.
We were following elephants, and a bloody tuskless cow decided to chase us in the bush.
Our tracker, who was carrying the shooting sticks, took off with one of our hunters close behind!
The tracker dropped the sticks, our hunter tripped over it and fell flat on his face!
Luckily the cow was running in another direction!

MJinesThe sticks with two points of contact on the rifle are far superior to the mono pods, bipods and tripods. The Gunstix are the best I have used. It should not be surprising that shooting sticks with two points of contact are superior. It is a simple matter of physics. The old style tripods wrapped with rubber tubing are just that . . . old and outdated.
Mike
I used a pair on a few shots they work but I dont like them as much as my old bog bog tri-pod. In thick bush they are a pain to open and dont like the limited side to side movement you have them.

SaeedTwo legged home made African sticks are easiest to deploy.
Three legged ones sometimes become hard to deploy.
Depends on the terrain.

KevinNYI've been practicing with mine in the sitting position, great for Western hunts in the USA. I can ring plates at 300 yards with ease with them. I brought a pair to Namibia last year and my son and I used them in both the two points of contact mode and as a traditional shooting stick. Worked great and successfully defended an unexpected warthog charge too!

Jerry FiskIve used sitting postions ones made from dried river cane for many year and in competions would shoot out the tacks holding the target.

the PomThere are horses for courses. Gunsticks definitely give a steadier rest on small, distant targets. However, in thick scrub on buffalo the traditional 3 sticks is quicker to set up, needs less rifle movement to get onto and gives lots of sideways movement.

whisk(e)y hunter+1 for gunstix! Can shorten the legs if needed to reduce the spanning width while standing, or shoot from a seated position

jjbullArjun, I enjoyed talking with you and your brother in Atlanta at DSC.
I am getting ready to order my Gunstix now and wondering if you have a current Coupon Code for AR members or just for me.

SaeedThey do look great, and very steady.
Not sure how they would work out on the sorts of hunts we do.
16 April 2025, 02:07
reddy375Saaed I have personally shot over 50 animals with them from Africa and Europe to Australia, taking shots from 50+ yards to 300+. I have seen shots over 400 yards taken when I was present.
In Europe 80% of hunters are now using these style of sticks I would say. In Africa they are getting more and more popular. Some Phs say they are slow to set up. I don't know where the slow comes in, never had a single animal run away before i could shoot. Often times you are waiting on the sticks before the PH gives you the go ahead, the weight of your rifle is completely supported with this design of sticks so no fatigue or shake from holding the gun for what seems like hours!
Like anything else a little practice to get used to them is recommended. It is quicker to put the stock down in the rear rest first and then the forend. I also find if you put the rifle as far forward as it will go and allow the sticks to make contact with your body, the little rocking motion is steadied.
Unless you get the detachable support leg they obviously cannot stand on their own like a tri-pod.
And if you are hunting in thick bush and need any sticks to shoot a buffalo at 20 or 30 yards then what you really need is a Gun man not Gunstix

And finally we offer a 100% no Qs asked, full money back refund if you don't like them. Have had precisely one come back from the 100s we have sold!
Thanks,
Arjun
