Add AIR CANADA to the list of airlines that refuse to transport hunting trophies. Puts em right up there with BA and Lufthansa.

Mate, what makes you think BA don't carry hunting trophies?

We've never had them refuse us....... We have had the tossers at LHR insist on being given 24 hours notice of transport but that's the vet inspectors tossers at LHR not the BA tossers. rotflmo

Steve, you of all people should know that things change in five minutes in the policies of any AIRLINE, at the whim of one official or another!

I don't know if this is something new or not but you must know that in England it is not out of the question that some greenie in the BA headquarters may just have flexed his muscles, with his hunting bias! I hope not, however!

Mac,

I don't think BA are organised enough to establish such a policy. However, I wouldn't put it past some of the individual station managers to try and pull such a stunt but if that's the case, I reckon it'd probably be possible to kick those individual arses into gear.

The problem with raw trophy import into the UK is two fold. firstly the vet inspectors are ultra paranoid about foot and mouth and secondly are just anti hunting..... the bastards will even snag consignments because they claim they can't read a smudged date stamp (that are perfectly legible to me) and then offer the client the choice of return to original airport at the client's cost or incineration of consignment.

I hate the bastards!

I believe BA transports a ton of trophies. Has that changed?

Seems to me that airlines in general ought to be taking all the business they can. Have not seen too many, other than Southwest, who actually make a profit.

Although I hate Air Canada and do not use them, I just pulled this off their website:

Antlers and horns are accepted as checked baggage only Weight limit on antlers or horns is 32 kg (70 lb).

Charges

If checked separately, antlers and horns count as one piece of baggage towards the maximum number of checked bags allowed by your fare type provided they do not exceed:
23 kg (50 lb) in weight, and/or
158 cm (62 in) in linear dimensions (height + width + length)
Additional checked baggage charges apply if:
antlers or horns exceed above size and weight limits, and/or
if your baggage count (antlers or horns + number of bags to be checked) exceeds the maximum number of items allowed by your fare type.
Handling charge:
In addition to any applicable additional checked baggage charges, antlers and horns are subject to a fixed handling charge of $150 CAD/USD (plus applicable taxes) for carriage on all Air Canada and Jazz flights. The charge applies to one-way flights and for each way of travel on round-trip and multi-segment flights.

Please note that a single fixed handling charge is waived for Latitude and Executive fare customers for travel within Canada, and between Canada and the US. Additional checked baggage rules still apply.

Packing instructions

The antlers or horns must be clean and carefully wrapped in absorbent material with all points covered, then suitably packaged in a rigid and/or hard shell container specifically designed for shipping. Smaller antlers wrapped in a larger set count as an additional item.

Bounty is accepted as checked baggage.

Hunters require a permit to transport meat from Canada to the United States. Please visit the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) website for more information.

Charges

If checked separately, bounty counts as one piece of baggage towards the maximum number of checked bags allowed by your fare type provided it does not exceed:
23 kg (50 lb) in weight, and
158 cm (62 in) in linear dimensions (height + width + length)
Additional checked baggage charges apply if:
bounty exceeds above size and weight limits, and/or
if your baggage count (item in this category + number of bags to be checked) exceeds the maximum number of items allowed by your fare type.
Packing instructions

Meat and game must be transported in a leak-proof container or wrapped in absorbent material and then placed in plastic bags inside waxed cartons. Plastic bags alone are not sufficient for transport.

So could you please give some specifics as to what was refused?

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."

I hate paying them $50/gun per flight. I did bring back Moose and Goat trophies together, and they only charged me $35. I have to fly with the on Sunday on my last leg going to BC to moose hunt, and I dread it!
