I've owned several Rem 700 rifles and absolutely never had a bit of trouble with the issued extractor.....and I have a friend that just says they're a lot of trouble.

I think it depends on whether you load you ammo to the max or if you leave some room for hot climate shooting.

Hi All,
I am having a Rem 700 built. It will be a 375 H&H, general use rifle. I would anticipate plains game, cape buff and bear. I do recognize the difference between crf and push feed. My question is," should I have it fitted with a Sako extractor?"

All opinions and replies are greatly appreciated.

Regards, PG

Thanks for the info. The ammo will be factory.
Mike, it sounds like you have been satisfied with the Sako extractor, as have the others. It sounds as though it doesn't hurt to have the Sako done and there are positive reasons to do so.

Has anyone had any negative results from the Sako extractor?

Regards, PG

I have had quite a few done with Sako extractors.

In my opinion there a couple of reasons for doing the conversion and niether might apply to your situation.

1) Simply not liking the look of the idea of the rivoted in extractor than comes with the H&H bolt face.

2) Some Rem extractors do not easily slip over the case rim and this appears to be be because of the position they take up in the bolt face, that is, another Rem extractor does not cure the problem.

So if the look of the rivoted Rem extractor does not worry you (it makes me brake out in hives ) and your extractor easily slips over the case rim, then I would leave the standard extractor.

By the way, if the extractor does not easily engage the case rim then apart from the extra effort to close the bolt you will get a lot of brass shavings build up in the bolt face.
