Alright boys......I just thought I'd drop a fun thread into the mix for a 'change-up'. How many of you have had the privilege of dining & drinking.....and visiting the 'in basement sanctuary' at the Bulawayo club? I had this pleasure back in 2010 with my dear friend Nigel Theissen. Nigel mostly hunts in Tanzania but has a home.....or had.....and is still rebuilding in Bulawayo. (Damn fire took a toll on his wonderful place). Anyway.....what wonderful memories of a fine meal, delightful, proper, conversation and marvelous atmosphere. IF you are going to Zim and landing in Bulawayo, my recommendation is get there a day early. Eat out that night @ the club. Go to Faziks and get some crap for the family, and go to Steve Colletts taxidermy shop and buy some really neat giraffe, or zebra or whatever stuff including leather bound books. Damn........it kills me to be sitting here at the house at this time of year when I should be in Zim jacking around with friends. I must be getting old. About all I do is putter around (plus some work), thinking about this kind of fun stuff. Outside of my family, I can hardly stand to carry on here. God in heaven knows I need to move to Vic Falls.

JudgeG and I had the pleasure of staying at the Bulawayo Club on our trip to Charisa and Sengwa Research a few years ago. It's like being transformed back in time.

I am staying there a night on the way in and a night on way out in Sept. We are planning to film a segment about their history , etc. I think it will be something different for TV. Good Hunting, Tim Herald Worldwide Trophy Adventures tim@trophyadventures.com

My group of 12 stayed there for a night in 2010. Six of us drank in the bar for couple of hours, bar tab was what 1 round would have cost in the States!....and we had about 6 rounds!!! We had a private dinner in the wine cellar, food was fantastic. We are set to leave on 26 of this month and I would not think of going to Zim without a night at "The Club". Really makes it feel like something out of Africa 100 years ago. A trip to Faziks, Collets, TCI all part of the trip! If any AR member will be at The Club the night of 28th May, I'll buy the first round! Cheers!

Damn! I passed through Bulawayo a few years ago and didn't even hear of this. I used to think my PH there was competent.

Tim If you want some additional "history" ask about the Bulawayo Polo Cross club. I believe there are some rather interesting tales that may surface. Specialist Outfitters and Big Game Hounds An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last. - Winston Churchill

I have never been to the club, but thanks to you I will stop in there for a drink on the 19th and on my way out on the 31st. This will be my first DG hunt in Bubye valley. I am counting the days. Dean

I have stayed at the Bulawayo Club twice... lots of history and very comfortable! The second floor ballrooms and club rooms need to be seen to take in all of the cool artifacts, trophies and pictures of a different time in old Rhodesia. Biebs and I were fortunate to have the owners have supper with us and we got a great history leson and tour, too. The food was outstanding, the rooms comfortable, the staff "Johnny-on-the-spot" and the prices quite reasonable. I'll never go to Bulawayo again without a visit.
JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.
