This being a cool Sunday afternoon in southeast Georgia, I hosted a shooting session involving JudgeG, Jorge, Mbogo375, myself, and another gentleman that hasn't registered here yet, but probably will one day. My guest brought double rifles, bolt actions rifles, a ton of ammunition, and a bottle of really good single malt scotch that remained with me when they left. My daughter, who like her father is a police officer, fired JudgeG's 470 Searcy double, an now wants one of her own. We shot up a bunch of ammo, then retired to my home for dinner. We had sausage that JudgeG supplied, and I had some biltong in the freezer. These munchies provided us with enough sustenance to survive until dinner. Dinner consisted of a smoked and barbecued beef brisket with all the trimmings. After dinner we had a wonderful pie that Ms 1115 cooked while we were out blowing holes in paper. We talked of Africa, and guns, and Africa, and hunting, and Africa etc etc. All too soon our evening ended, and my guests went there separate ways. As we travel lifes roads it is wonderful to take the time to appreciate fine friends old and new, and to realize that such people can make a day worthwhile. Thanks guys, for a great afternoon. By the way, the scotch is great.

That's my frappin' Scotch.

What an afternoon/evening. And we have our host Saeed to thank for getting us together.

Thank you my friend from U.A.E.

Fellows, if you are ever around the Golden Isles of Georgia, a bottle of Johnny Walker Single Malt will get you the very best food in the world and an afternoon of shooting Rigbys, Westley Richards, great old Mausers and even a Searcy or two... but make sure to put the Scotch in my truck and not forget it on the kitchen counter!

And wait until you lay your eyes on my new 10.75x68 Hoffman...A 350 gr. Northfork or Barnes X at 2375 FPS..It is a lustful piece to observe and shoots one hole at 50 and 1.5 at 100 with irons, it will never be fouled with a scope..pass that Scotch.

PS, I could be tempted to lend it to one of you crackers to take to the Selous should you desire, but you would owe me greatly for life.

Hey 1115:

Take a picture of your dog and post it. I'll bet that Ray would jump on a trade! But then you rejected me as a son-in-law! What would you do with a guy 105 years old in the family?

I know Ray will always give credit where credit is due, so Ray I expect a Royalty payment before you hunt with your 10.75x68. Big Grin
Do not make me send the "Collector" gunsmile

Some of you may remember I was singing the praises of the 10.75x68 as a big bore for the North American game as well as Africa a long time back.

1115,
Thanks for a great afternoon of camaraderie and general good fellowship (not to mention putting up with the likes of all these old coots....er, I mean old Africa hands Wink). This was a case of true southern hospitality at it's finest.

Here is a photo of the terrible trio- Jorge, JudgeG, and 1115. JudgeG is actually not "flipping a bird" with his left hand. That is one of his mosquito fogging, generally fumigating, all-purpose repellent cigars (at least I think that is what it is Big Grin).

Ray,

it will be interesting to see how you find the 10.75x68 load performs vs other cartridges in the same range that you have used before, by using a proper projectile. I think the original loading only went about 2100 fps (?) so you are pushing it a bit more.

1115 you had brisket??? uhhh where is mine??? LOL I am convinced that if God where to come down and want a meal of his choice, he would want beef brisket smoked for hours over hickory.

in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

Dang it, 1115 beat me to the punch! I just wanted to thank him and the lovely Mrs. 1115 for the wonderful hospitality, great meal and the opportunity to share it with some great folks.

Before arriving at 1115's the Judge and I had a few hours to tell each other lies...er I mean true life stories of Navy-USMC aviators and the good ol' days when one could "strap on" a jet, set our "hair on fire." I also want to personally thank M'Bogo 375 for letting me "pop my double rifle cherry" with his wonderful double rifle, It was truly a great day and I thank you. jorge

PS: Hey Judge, I think that whiskey found a better place. Next time we'll just have to bring more cigars, ask 1115 to light the fireplace and we can toast good friends, good whiskey, good rifles and good women....in that order Smiler jorge

Then after you guys got the good yer honor zonked he calls me up in the middle to the night and wants to talk, gee thanks guys! Roll Eyes

N.E.
NO, I don't load it up, rather I just dropped down from a 400 gr. soft to a 350 gr. monolithic and got the extra velocity (2375 FPS)..I can load it to 2100 fps with a 400 gr. bullet, but I have shot buffalo with that exact load many times in my 404 Jefferys and my 450-400s in days past...I have also shot buffalo with both the 404 and 416 Remington with the 350 gr. Barnes X bullets at 2400 FPS.....Soooo I have a fair idea what it will do and thats hammer old M'Bogo very well indeed...

I have always had a spot in my heart for the little almost ought six size case with the big heart..

The 10.75x68 never was popular in Africa because it was loaded with really poor quality bullets..Given the proper bullet its a fine killer, little recoil (less that a 300, 338 or 375) it seems to me, yet kills like a big bore is expected to kill and with time proven ballistics of a 404, and all that in a 8 lb. rifle that holds 5 down and one up, bullets by Northfork, Woodleigh and Barnes X, can't beat that combination of facts.

The only reason I have not been using one much for the past years was that only Bertram made cases, but now with Horneber making brass,I am a confirmed 10.75x68 user..
