As stated above, I've been fortunate to take two waterbuck bulls in South Africa and one in Zimbabwe.

This first bull is an honest 30" bull taken in the Limpopo Province and is my best bull taken. I took him with a Sako 7mm Rem Mag and can tell you they are TOUGH! Two shots after the initial "perfect" shot and thirty minutes of chasing this bull put him down for good!

This bull was shot with Brad Rolston in the Northern Traansvall close to Kruger. A nice 28" bull and an unexpected bonus on this hunt! Notice I upgraded to a .375 H&H and it still took two shots! Shooting through thick bush deflected my bullet and while it put him down, I still had to administer the coup de grace.

I shot this 26.5" bull on the Mkwasine River in the Save Conservancy last July with a .300 win mag and finally got it right taking the bull out with a single shot. You might ask why I like to hunt waterbuck...they are tough, clever and love thick bush making them a challenge. And $1500 looks cheap when you look at the total cost of the hunt!

I'd rate waterbuck as one of the top "5" plainsgame trophies and think they make a handsome trophy and are challenging to hunt in thick cover.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

I had taken this guy when a couple days later we spotted one that made him look small. I was being nice and told my buddy to take it. He was hemming and hawing about the trophy fee. I told him if he didnt shoot it quick I damn sure would! That is all it took for him to make up his mind.
