Last month while we were in Africa we heard several rumors that Mugabe's wife has been talking to one of the Generals for protection.

I live in the tobacco belt and several people from this area use to live and work in Zim. Even with the current politics, Zimbabwe is making a comeback in Tobacco. So much so that it has effected the US market. Most of the remaining farmers have small business scattered all over so they do not draw too much attention. They have some of the best crop soil on Earth and two growing seasons.

My concern is that when the country is opened back up for business, the Chinese will beat everyone to the pie making it even more difficult to find reasonable areas to hunt. Time will tell.

It will be chaos for a time. I'd love to hunt Zim, but won't until that happens and it calms down.

I wouldn't worry too much about the situation in Zimbabwe. Because the news media is skewed everyone thrives on rumors. Snopes should have a Zimbabwe page. The succession is pretty much up in the air, and much as I hate to say it, it's the old devil-you-know story. There will be minor instability when it happens, but it won't affect folks for very long. Demonstrators here are more interested in looting flatscreens than making any ideological statement.

Have hunted in Zim four times since 2006, never had any sort of problem. It seemed like most politcal action was in the cities, and you're in the bush for 90% of your hunt.
Once in the Bulawayo airport, a customs official walked up to me while I was in line, and asked for me by name. I'll have to admit, it sort of threw me. As it turns out, the PH's wife had asked him to assist me with my firearms & duffel bag.
If you go with a good outfitter, no worries.
