Ladies and Gentlemen, I understand the government of Zimbabwe does not allow foreign clients to shoot PAC elephants? If feedback on this would be much appreciate it.

Saeed - What I have been told, from a reliable source (Don Heath - who is involved in Parks as we know), is that the elephant bulls being shot are considered "Non Trophy" (non-exportable) and there is a set minimum paid to the local council in a Campfire area. True "PAC" hunts where NO fee is paid are illegal, and may be performed only by Parks, or an appy hunter gaining experience, or Zim citizens with permission of the council. Each district gets a quota of elephant they convert to "Non Trophy" hunts, so they are not unlimited and if abused Parks will take over and the council will have to pay them for the services provided. However, the operators and PH's in Zim still refer to the Non Trophy bulls generically as "PAC". Visiting hunters should confirm that they are indeed hunting Non Trophy on on quota with a Parks TR2, and personally I would include this in my contract with the correct verbiage if I were to ever do one.

From what I understand, Mr. Bill is absolutely correct.

Right on Bill C- but alot of "ration Hunt permits" being issued this year as well. My understanding that it is legal for a visiting hunter to take these (non exportable) provided that the approved "non trophy" fees are paid to the council. Ration Hunts in the parks estate (ie parks and safari areas) may ONLY be hunted by parks staff or learner professional Hunters or Guides.

Just to be clear to those of us (myself included) that need everything explained in "childs language": One cannot export any part of a trophy from a PAC elephant? If so, can any part of the trophy (say the skin) be processed at a local taxidermist and then shipped as a "finished article" like a gun case? Many thanks "...Them, they were Giants!" J.A. Hunter describing the early explorers and settlers of East Africa hunting is not about the killing but about the chase of the hunt.... Ortega Y Gasset

Mitch In Africa, the shortest distance between two points is usually a crooked line... The legal honest answere is no- you may not even take a tail hair bracelt home- unless you pay extra for it and bank it at the covernment exchange rates. Reality- the skins are all either sold to the safari operator by council or direct to the taxidermist by the council. The taxidermist will gladly make you up wantever you want- and since you are paying him a processing and make up fee- it is legal for you to export thoses goods from Zimbabwe. Complicated? Yup, but it can be done with minimal hassel. Just don't decide you want the tusks when it's down. That can usually be done - but oh boy is it going to be expensive. ( add about an extrta 25k)

I just returned from the Gokwe areas (north, south and east) and I agree with what is being said. Many elephant are shot there at the request of the council. They are non-exportable, but there are ways to get some of the trophy out. If you wish to get something out, it would be best to book for a non-trophy, which I understand is fully exportable.
