Razor Dobbs in Africa

Two days ago I watched this baffoon hunting waterbuck in Africa on the Pursuit Channnel. While he shot a beautiful bull, by actual count he used the phrase "Oh my gosh" EIGHT times between the shot and the hero pose with the downed bull. Aside from sounding like a valley girl, he annoys the crap out of me on a bunch of levels:
1) He's a clone of a young Tim Robbins, a virulent PETA front man;
2) He wears a tam backwards at all times- it works for Bill Murray on a golf course, but not on an African safari;
3) He wears his bleached blond hair in a ponytail and swings it around like a teenaged girl shopping at a mall;
4)He has his own Razor Dobbs logo sewn onto his shirt; AR logo is OK, but not your own logo;
5) He wears knee high motorcycle boots with a cute little buckle at the bottom;
6) Last but not least, he talks incessantly.
I finally muted the volume to watch the rest of the show after the "Oh my gosh" barrage. Of all the African hunting shows, this was the worst one I've ever seen. If I hadn't already seen the programs of Ivan Carter, Craig Boddington or Tony Makris and only saw this fool's show, I'd never have gone to Africa.

I talked with someone who videoed him in Africa. He is really quite a nice guy. All these "personalities" are for the benefit of the camera. Apparently it's what is required to get noticed and subsequent viewers.

I couldn't stand the guy. Then I met him at Malapati. Actually, he was a really nice guy.

He may be a nice guy, but I can't take his "on camera" personality, so I will not watch.

Hmmmm ... Just wondering if there might me another "on screen personality" that many here find annoying that in real life, seems to have a fully booked schedule, with no voiced complaints to date by actual clients. Naaa; couldn't be! What you see "on camera" must be the real deal!

BTW, I do not judge a man by his TV persona, I judge the show. I withhold judgment of him until I have spent time in camp with him. My son was on a TV hunting show for 2 years and his best friend and family are huge players in the outdoor products and hunting show business. I like them, but I really don't watch their show because I don't like the way they are portrayed on TV. I like to watch the MS DVDs but am unwilling to judge him based on what I see there.

I will admit I watch his show at times. He comes off as a total ass a lot of the time. However , at times he seems a lot different. There was an episode where they had to take out some sick critter. I think it was an eland. Can't remember. He come off very upset at the entire matter, not the total jackass who jumps in the river at the beginning of the show . It was admirable actually.

Hey! Hey! Hey! Lay off the ponytail slamming and if it's your bizz you can't have your logo on your shirt? Please!!!!!
I don't know Razor at all but I was pretty unimpressed with the show that was basically about his poddle.

If you have a problem with Dobbs, you really need to try watching a MS DVD. Just for a heads up have your finger hovering over the mute button.

Interesting.

It must be the character he plays that people don't like. They like him on a personal basis, but I have not heard anyone say they liked his on-camera personality. It's a pretty strong act, I'll grant him that. Never met him so can't comment.

I did meet MS. He was a true gentleman. This is consistent with what I have heard others say.

Drama sells. MS figured it out. Maybe Dobbs is taking a run at it as well.

Mark: I have no problems with guys with ponytails like yourself, but do you swish it around and fondle it on camera like a teenaged girl? Oh, and I forgot item #7: Be sure to buy Razor's "Exclusive Razor Dobb's Luminox Safari Watch" for only $249.00

Razor is a friend of mine. We live in the same town and our familes are ranch neigbors. He's a good guy who quit a stable career to live his dream in a crowded market. I think when he started he wanted to be different than the ordinary hunting show and he has certainly accomplished that. If nothing else, you have to admire his enthusiam. If you see him at the shows, go up and introduce yourself!
