We have flight delays from Rome to Frankfurt, and we will not get our flight tonight to joburg - Harare..
However, our two boys will arrive in the am, and have to wait 26 hours for us...
Where should they stay in joburg? How do theynget to the place?
Appreciate any tips here, I forget the place we normally stayed at before...

City Lodge in the JNB airport. Just google it for the website and reservations. However, there are two City Lodges in JNB. One is a little ways from the airport, the other is right in the airport itself, less than 100 yards from the international arrival hall. You don't even need to leave the terminal building to get to it. Prices are very reasonable as well. Good luck.

Afton Lodge guest house.
These above three are about the most popular options.

Dean,

Listen to Todd. Your kids are on their first trip to Africa. Make it simple for them. City Lodge is right in the airport. They can take their guns and luggage right with them to the hotel. I'd arrange a meet/greet to walk them through it all.

+1 on above reply., the off site lodges are nice but you need to arrange travel to them and they have limited menus as well as limited dining times...way more autonomy at the airport hotels, full menus (good food too) , room service, etc.

What Todd said.

After 16 hours the convenience of the CL is tough to beat, IMO.

Without a doubt Africa sky!
You can stay at a concrete city lodge in any city in the world, why do it on safari ,rather experience true African hospitality plus the ability to sit around a campfire, have home cooked meals, ice cold beverges from an honesty bar and enjoy your hosts at the start or end of our dream trip!

Just my 2 cents

Marty

+1 to Marty's comment. Be SURE to ask for the lemon cheese cake with vanilla ice cream, it is outstanding.

I've stayed twice at the Afton guest house. They will meet you at the airport, take you to the lodge and bring you back the next day.

The courtesy and professionalism of the staff at The Intercontinental is impeccable. They have a wonderful menu as well, which includes game , usually springbok & ostrich. This ain't your typical US airport hotel, that is for sure.

I stayed at the Afton House this July and the City Lodge at the airport a year ago.
If you are just overnighting in Joburg for a flight the following day, the airport city lodge is very convenient.
Both were very nice.
