Wednesday April 14, 2010 Local News 'Hyena' eats Simanjiro woman From MARC NKWAME in Arusha, 14th April 2010 @ 12:00, A FEMALE resident of Kimotoki Ward in Simanjiro District has been attacked and eaten by an unknown wild animal. The Manyara Regional Police Commander, Permena Sumari, has confirmed the incident. Fifty-year-old Ms Selian Kagoya met her death last Monday when she was returning home from water, where she had gone to collect water for domestic use. It was already dark when her screams for help pierced Ngage Village. A rescue team from the village rushed towards the water well which is a kilometre or two away from the residential area but Selian was not found. Later the search party split into groups and scoured the wilderness. It was at this juncture that they started discovering small items such as pieces of cloth and an empty container of water. The remains of Ms Kagoya were later found in the woods with some of her body parts, including limbs missing. The incident incensed the villagers. A massive search for the man-eater that had killed Selian was mounted. The hunters later came across a large stray hyena and concluded that the animal must have been the culprit. They cornered the animal and attacked it with arrows and spears killing it in a short while. The incident comes a few days after another woman was eaten by crocodiles while trying to wad across a river. Ms Agness Omary (52) was torn to pieces by the crocodiles in Ruvu Remiti River, also in Simanjiro District.
