my partner, Boet Van Aarde,( Sebeneni Trails Company) find an excellent, new area for big elephant, for the end of 2004. It is the back area of Gona Re Zhou National park. This year is the first year they open the hunting in that area for more than 30 years. They sees 60 ; 70 lb all the time. They have 2 elephant a year but because it is the first year in the area, nobody knows the area and the clients do not want to book. He sell only one. The price is US $ 1000 / day. Price for elephant is US $ 13000 . Plus transfert, 2% taxes and gratuites. I think is one of the few opportunity for a big tusker. If someone is interested I will put in contact with Boet.

Mario, I did a side trip to Gona re Zhou ("Place of the Elephant") in '01. The elephant there have a reputation for being aggressive to humans. There certainly are ele there, but I don't know about the area you reference. jim dodd

I dont know if the elephant in Go Na Re Zhou are more aggressive of the other areas. But in the area ther'are few females ( absolutely more agressive) and you follow just the bulls. Usually the old bulls are not very aggressive. At the border of the national park ther'are some areas very good for big tuskers ( 60 lb and 70 lb also) and other areas not at the same level (30 lb). Depend also of the number of hunts. If ther'are too many hunts in one area, the old bulls remain inside the fences of the national park. If the hunting pressure is less high the animals are more quiet and they come and go from the fences. For this reason I believe the area we found is very interesting.
