On line TV Documentary

This is a link to a documentary which appeared on our TV the other night.

The basis for the program is to take three women, send them over to South Africa and in two weeks, train them up so they can go out as a team in a 4x4 and cull and recover animals for the meat market. At the same time they are to "compete" against a similar team of experienced male cullers..

The culls are conducted via spot lamps at night and vary from just a couple of animals in an evening, to 75 odd during the final culiing operation...

The site is designed to run off IE and if you use Firefox, you will need to down load a free plug-in first (follow the prompts) but its well worth doing....

Not African hunting in the traditional sense, but an interesting look at one aspect of the RSA Wild Game industry...

Does any South African know who this obnoxious “Deon†fellow is? Bet you he won’t be as disrespectful amongst males. He’ll get his head popped into his arse and rolled through the veldt like a second hand Goodyear if he displays that pathetic attitude amongst men. As an Afrikaans guy, I do want to apologize for his behaviour – we all have our distasteful characters.
Hi Pete, trust you’ve been doing well.

Pity, any good?

Porcus Canis Klipkoppus - Lesser spotted Pig Dog. Often located in the South Eastern regions of the country. Characterized by low mental capacity and regular outbursts of profanity at the slightest challenge from an intelligent source
Staple diet of tobacco and malt beverages, life expectancy 45 years.

The lesser spotted pig dog often runs in packs where groups of males will engage in regular back slapping and chest beating to enhance their appeal and self confidence. This is driven by low self esteem and an inherent fear of the femal of the species.
Will resort to violence at the drop of a hat.

Other subspecies occur in both the UK and US the form of Porcus Canis Scouser and Porcus Canis Rednecki. The lesser spotted scouser and the lesser spotted redneck. A rare subspecies of scouser is prevealent in the north of england in the form of Porcus Canis Pikey - The lesser spotted pikey.

For more information on these rather remarkable remnants of the 16th century watch the documentarty film , Deliverance.

I must say my good man if you think these "sub-species" do not occur in your nationality you are quite wrong. I have had reason to try and do business with your kind and they seem to talk and act just as this fellow on the video does. So before you condemn others on the toothpicks in their eye make sure you take the log out of your eye first.

Yes, thats the whole point of the piss take. I am South African. They are filming that less than 400km from where I live so its all tongue in cheek.
Our sub species has evolved to such a point that it is almost in a class of its own.
No logs or toothpics involved, just a bit of fun. Hope you are not offended.

No Riaan
Just heard about this one before. They are apparently somewhere near Elliot in the EC. That might be questionale information though. But he does look like he could be from one of the real backwaters of the EC. Some of those guys are pretty rough, but they generally have good manners and would never carry on like that.
What a poes, he really is the type of guy you dont want to put on TV. Anyway, as Bob pointed out we each have our version of them whether in SA, UK or USA. Just too bad they seem to be great TV targets that add to stereotyping a nation.

Anyway, such is life

Riaan,

Doing well thanks, how about you? Still doing some hunting?

Gents,

My first thought was that guys involved were probably told to ham things up for the camera to add a bit of drama to the program...

I suspect that the chap running the cull would have earned more from appearing the program than from even the large cull at the end, and probably negotiated a deal with the production company that added an element of "insurance" in case things went badly wrong.

There were a couple of things that were said that didn't ring true though...The cullers gave the impression they paid the farmer to shoot the beasts...Surely it should be the other way around? Also, they said they exported the "organic venison" to Europe...I would have thought most of it would have gone for biltong with in RSA? In fact I've never seen venison from plains game on sale over here, although a few specialist African shops do sell biltong..

On the whole I thought two of the women did really well, although that did not surprise me considering their occupations and the fact they were decent shots..

What really amazed me was the program itself..This must one of the few programs I have seen on British main stream TV which covered the subject of hunting/culling with out any anti-hunting bias at all; in fact without any sensationalism at all...

They treated the job of culling no different than if they had showed the girls being Welders or race car drivers...

Anybody hazard a guess what calibers they were using? Even taking into account the rifles were moderated, the recoil and report were virtually none existent..

Regards,

Pete
