My .378WM custom (Sterling Davnenport) has an laminate , which I prefer for many reasons.

My Harris Talon 3 barrel set has Kevlar and I am making a laminate for it.

My double rifles are wood stocked.

The only place I prefer synthetic is at the bench, at high altitude (weight) or soaking wet(Texican rephrased- drownt Smiler )

I like a nice piece of walnut on a blued rifle. However, since I live in coastal Alaska, most of my rifles have synthetic stocks and teflon coated bluing. I don't like to ruin good gun metal or walnut stocks and I haven't taken the time to finish many rifles the way they need to be done to protect them from rusting, swelling, and warping.

Only one rifle? Is this some kind of sick joke? Hunting with a syn stock is like taking a prostitute to the prom, yes she gets the job done but damn guys, why not take a freaking beauty that can do the same thing(if you know what you are doing)?

If I hunted Alaska often, a Synthetic would be a wise choice, but since this is an African Forum Ill pick Wood. Wink

Stainless steel and synthetic.

That is what I use, and have never regretted it.

That's probably another April fools joke as we all know that wealthy Arabs only use fine English rifles. Wink
Wonder if H&H offer a Stainless/Synthetic option? Confused

I voted synthetic for the utility of it.

Then again I also think that the stainless and black synthetic combo is beautiful. One of those "in the eye of the beholder" things.

No Contest - Synthetic. I have a Weatherby DGR with a Kevlar Stock and it's virtually indestructible.

Wood looks great, but when I go to hunt I don't care how "pretty" my rifle is. If you need a AAA grade Walnut stock for your African hunt, I would also recommend a Pith Helmut, Handle-bar moustach, and a Monocle.

I wish I could get a double with a kevlar stock.

My vote goes to wood and blued steel. Hunting is a lot about aesthetics, and the gun is part of the picture. I had a plastic stock on my Winchester model 70 because because that was what I could afford at the time. By last year I could finally go on a plains game hunt in Africa, but the thoughts of plastic in the photos of a maybe once in a lifetime hunt disturbed me. A second hand Featherweight stock was purchased and installed, and it's staying, having served me well on plains game, and looking the part in the photos. I haven't been to AK, but descriptions of the weather are exactly like those from Western Norway in the October and November deer season. Bedding and stock oil (particularly on the inside) should help keeping it straight, but neglect over time may let you add one to the experience files.
