4 lions on the loose...
17/09/2007 14:03 - (SA)

Johannesburg - A search was under way on Monday for four lions which escaped from the Kruger National Park, local authorities said.

Five lions took advantage of a hole in their enclosure to make their escape on Saturday, Jimmy Masombuka, a spokesperson of Mpumalanga Province parks and tourism agency, told AFP.

One of the lions died after a train hit it, he said.

The remaining four are on the prowl around Mdlankomo village, where inhabitants have been warned to be on high alert and to protect their livestock at night.

"It is very tough to capture them because there are a lot of bushes in the region and the lions are very intelligent. They smell us when we approach them," Masombuka

UEG

Will call you later today - been "in and out" for the last few weeks.

Those 4 should be quite safe ( and well fed ) until they decide to start feeding on people.

A pride of 7, including 2 adult males have just broken out of Kruger, into one of the places where you hunted a few months ago. Yesterday we applied for hunting permits for 2 of them, as well as 2 Elephants. We were told by the Game Department that our application would be "taken under consideration", and that we "may" get a reply in around 30 days.................???

Kruger's lions often take a little walk, but there is usually no action taken until someone gets hurt - only when the state vets no longer have an asnwer to the problem, is a hunting permit considered...

Just an update

two off the Lionesses was shot dead and it looks like the other two returned back to Kruger. the area around pretoriuskop is badly burned we had alot of fires this year.and they are struggling to catch their prey at the moment. Their enclosure is bigger than a few countries and they still want to break out.
