When we flew through Amsterdam to Tanzania, clean/private showers were available at the airport during our layover. Does J'Burg have anything similar?

A few months ago someone posted on here that there is a lounge with showers at JHB. The price was quite reasonable as I recall.

SBT,

After checking in and going through passport control into the international terminal, turn right and go almost to the end of the terminal. To your right, before you reach the end of the terminal, is an escalator. Go up the escalator and turn left and walk a short distance. Premiere Club Lounge will be on your right. 98 Rand per person (about 13 Dollars last July)[The current rate seems to be R110 - about US$16, now. See the article below. This is for International Departures. They also have an arrival lounge in a local hotel. See article below]. Free sandwiches, snacks and drinks. I know they have showers but check with them to see if you have to pay extra for the showers.

Regards,

Terry

Premier Club Lounge

Johannesburg International Airport

This is a classy facility located beyond passport control. Indirect (ie through the duty-free below) view over the tarmac provides natural light which is a rarity at Jhb International.

Decor is modern afro-chic and very pleasant. Plenty of comfortable chairs and a separate smoking area.

There is a bar area with many different South African wines as well as cheese, olives, crackers etc - plus two self-service bars with sandwiches, nuts, crisps, cold and hot drinks, and traditional rusks. Excellent food selection overall.

There is a small business area as well as a children corner.

Toilet fittings are equivalent to a five-star hotel and there are also shower facilities.

The negatives - poor selection of reading material and dial-up rather than broadband connection for free internet access.

The lounge is shared by a variety of airlines but economy class passengers flying any airline can gain access through a fee.

Travellers arriving in South Africa wanting to take a shower, freshen up, have their suit pressed after a long flight or have a snack prior to having access to their hotel, or while waiting for a business meeting, can do so at Rennies Travel's new Premier Club Arrivals Lounge.

These facilities are available to passengers on any airline flying any class of travel. The cost is R140 per visit.

Situated in the Southern Sun InterContinental Hotel at Johannesburg International Airport (JIA), the Premier Club Arrivals Lounge, previously run by British Airways, compliments Rennies Travel's host of other passenger comfort services, including the Premier Club Departure Lounges and Conference Centre.

As the lounge is housed outside of the secure area at JIA, it is easily accessible for both domestic and international passengers.

The service is appropriate for business and leisure travellers, as well as groups. For a nominal fee, the Premier Club Arrivals Lounge provides travellers with the following facilities:

Showers and change rooms;

Business facilities;

Suit pressing service;

Serving of a hot full English breakfast in the early morning and health snacks served throughout the day.

The Premier Club Arrivals Lounge is open daily 6am to 6pm.

The International Premier Club Departures Lounge is R110 per visit, the local departure lounge is R54 a visit, and, as stated above, the Arrivals Lounge is R140.

Sorry Gents,

But this being RSA I can imagine emerging form the shower to find all your clothes and and worldly goods stolen! Naked and alone in africa...too frightening to think of!
