I have a new option for the packaged hunts on my website. While speaking to my partners wife yesterday she and I thought about offering a couple hunters the option of using our little house in the middle of the bush as a very inexpensive self catered hunting camp.

The house has no electricity but lights, fridge and stove are all propane. We can take you to town, you can buy your own food and care for yourselves in this house. It's fully 6 miles straight line to the mext building or structure. I baited leopards 300 yards from this house two years in a row, and it's the most common location to see white rhino on the property. The grassy field in front of this house it always busy with impala warthog and kudu as well.

Each morning a PH will fetch you both for the days hunting and each evening drop you back there. All skinning and raw preperation of the trophies is still included, actually the whole package is exaclty the same, it just puts you guys in a nice comfortable house in the bush. to care for yourselves each evening.

We were thinking of making this trip $4200 rather then the 5000 to stay at the lodge. It's about 100 bucks cheaper per day. We have never used this option before but I thought that many guys are wanting to go for the hunting adventure and have plenty of experience caring for themselves. The catered meals and fancy lodge may not be that important to some guys.

Anyone interested in using this little bush camp email me. It's a nice way to save almost a 1000 bucks on a safari.

Now that's using the old noggin, JJ. Good idea.

That sounds like a very good idea. I'm suprised this isn't more common, at least as an option.

I have stayed in this house only two nights myself in all the time I have spent there. The first night was while baiting leopards because it was so clost to the bait we could be to the house in 2 minutes instead of an hours drive to the lodge. The other time for a similiar reason when darting rhino and wanting to get a fresh start on the track. The moment we saw a rhino we could take off after him in the bush knowing they were right in front of us.

Imagine that you have a hide in a very game rich area that has a kitchen bathroom and bedrooms. While you can look out the window and see just about anything indiginous in the area walking by. I shot the very first Kudu of my life for my own trophy only a couple minutes walk from this house. I would actually prefer to stay in this house over the lodge but the management of the business keeps me near the operation each night. I can't really travel back and forth to the "bush camp" that frequently during the day. It's about 6 air miles, point to point but it's a long drive on the road network we have.

Thats a good idea Jim. Its a great spot. You could actually hunt on foot right from there and do very well.

Cheers,
Canuck

Yes you know that little green house in the middle of nowhere. It's kinda nice inside certainly better then a tented camp. Your right too, you could leave on foot every day and fill out your trophies in a 8-10 day hunt with no problem. There is a water hole about 1.2 miles west of the house and another about 1 mile east. The 40-50 acra grassy field surounding the front 180 degrees of the house is always active with game when you drive by.

I just thought it would be a clever way to offer a really interesting hunt with a lot of peace and quite alone time in the bush for anyone that might like that kind of thing. It's also a lot less expensive too.

I hunted a place in SA with Andrew McLaren a few months ago that was set up this way. Granted, it wasn't as isolated as your place, but you could hunt on foot right from the house. It was quite nice. There was no piped in electricity, but a generator took care of us for a few hours in the evening. We had no house staff (a couple guys to help with trophies and take care of the place) and prepared our own meals and took care of ourselves. It was quite enjoyable. If I were shopping for another safari at this point, I would give this a real hard look. I think it would be a great way to spend time in the bush.

Jim,
I'm not there yet, but when I am finally able to get to Africa I'd love to do it in that fashion.

Great Idea you have. I'd do it.

Sounds pretty cool, some guys might like to split there hunt, maybe spend the first few days "roughing it" and then get pampered the rest of the way.

I think it's an excellent idea -- allows your hunters to have more of the atmosphere they're used to in the US.
