5 honey badgers attacked by half a pride of 25 lion in the Makwee buffer zone between the Moremi and a citizen hunting area in Bots. Much spraying of nasty stuff and one honey badger killed after a 45 minute throat to throat deadlock with a lioness. A young male came to her assistance and bit into the ratel's anal gland - with predictable results! Fishing owl during the day and a pangolin and ardvark in the same picture also in Bots. Nodded off in my camp and woke up to 32 wild dog 5 feet from me - sniffing at my vellies. I tried to reach for my camera but that spooked them.

Two of the memorable for me were some ground hornbills a few years ago in Matetsi, and an ant bear last month in Limpopo.

I saw two bush pigs in the SAVE driving back to camp at almost dark. Shot one. The other stood still and could have taken him. The PH prompted me to shoot him. I said I shoot pigs all the time back home in Texas. After reading this I suppose I should taken the second one. The PH thought it was my best trophy of my Safari. Could not figure him out. Just an Orange pig... He told me it was the largest he had ever seen. Believe it or not I still have his cape and never had the full body mount. Guess I should pursue it. Something similar happened 40 years ago archery elk hunting in the Gila wilderness in New Mexico (prior to Jim Zumbo screwing up that area). A tiny whitetail buck just kept chasing a doe around my hunting buddy and I (we had a deer tag) and he said shoot it. I said I am not going to stick that little crummy whitetail. He kept saying stick it. I eventually did. Turned out to be the second largest coues deer ever killed in New Mexico at that time. You never know.....

Ground hornbill and wild dogs in Botwana The dogs had just eaten a kill at 6.40 am. We must have just missed the kill while the park gates were opening at 6:30 am! "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."
