May God rest his soul and give comfort to his family.

Andrew has been on AR since I joined...won’t be the same without him.

I understand it was an infection after a heart valve replacement so probably a fairly sudden thing rather than a longer term illness.

I will always remember the following story about Andrew.

A few years ago an AR member was on his way to hunt in Mozambique. He hadn't heard from his outfitter for an extended period of time and wasn't sure if his hunt had been cancelled. He wasn't sure if he should leave to go on the trip. He left anyway, with our encouragement.

Andrew drove from his home in the FreeState to Tambo to meet the AR member. The AR member had given Andrew the right time but the wrong day. Andrew repeated the trip the next day to get the member squared away. The hunt in Mozambique went off fine as I recall, after a number of SAT phone attempts.

Andrew went way out of his way to help a fellow hunter he didn't know and had never met, with no expectations of compensation or recognition.

I was fortunate to communicate with Andrew a few times but never had the opportunity to meet him or hunt with him. It is my loss that I never shared a campfire with him!

Comfort and peace to his family.

The world can ill afford to lose gentlemen of this caliber, as it is well stocked with persons of the opposite character.

I hunted with Andrew and four or five South African guests some years ago on one of his guinea fowl shoots that he hosted a few times a year.

It was a very interesting time, indeed. Cecelia is a wonderful cook, we all shot a few guineas and after the hunt was over and everyone else left, Andrew and I went into town to see the one chap who had accidentally shot himself in his thigh a few minutes after he drove away on his long trip back home.

He was a very interesting chap and did his best to show everyone a good time.

He had not been posting much lately and I was wondering what he was up to?

Like too many folks, he now lives on in our memories ..

Home from the hills …

Hi, John,

That was about half of a mile away from Andrew's house. I assume the group of bushes grew up overnight..

I am glad that you did not mention the inferior factory 270 shell I shot out of my 375 Ruger one night while engaging in a one sided firefight with some marauding porcupines.

I suspect that Andrew was happy to see me get on that big jet in Cape Town .. beer

Ah man, this sucks. Andrew and I shared a great hunt back in 2015. He was the consummate professional hunter and a man one could easily call friend. He was a passionate voice for conservation in South Africa. He will be sorely missed.

R.I.P. my friend. Condolences to Cecilia and the rest of the family.

So sad to hear this.

A true gentleman and I would call a friend for over 6 years.

When I visited South Africa for a few days, he called me and made sure I was ok. Unfortunately he was busy and could not take me bird hunting.

We corresponded regularly for years.

Prayers for his wife and family.
