I see you are from Mozambique where I have hunted and there is a US import ban. What do Americans do? Or do they just not hunt there? White Mountains Arizona

i would think that no matter where you are from or where you hunt, if you sell the ivory, then by definition you are trading in an animal product from a CITES listed animal. selling ivory makes you an ivory trader.... I will not profess to know what I am talking about, but here goes. No, you can not sell the ivory you own. Yes the ivory would be your private property but the powers that be have decided you do not have the right to sell it. This also applies to countries that there is not a ban on. This also applies if you brought the ivory home legally and is in your house. You can not sell it. You can give it away, you can throw it away, you can burn it, you can run over it with a bulldozer.....but you can not sell it. Unless, you can prove you obtained it prior to 1989. (I believe that is the year) In my case, I can sell my fathers ivory taken in the 60's but not my own ivory. My kids can keep it or throw it away when I am gone. Again, This is layman's version of what you can/can't do with your ivory and you know what free advise is worth. You probably want to read CITIES or talk with an attorney if you are considering this. All the best.

It never crossed my mind to sell ivory, but my impression is that you can't even sell legally imported ivory that has a valid CITES permit. Quite confident that selling ivory you couldn't import would get you in a world of hurt with somebody. Welcome thoughts from those that know.
