Hi All,

Had the need to drop into Rigby's new London premises last week. Marc Newton was very excited about the new Rigby Mauser rifle and dragged one out for me to handle. Those of you attending Vegas and DSC might find it interesting to swing by their stand and see it for yourselves but to say I am impressed would be an understatement. I understand that they are on the Blaser booth at Dallas and stand 1719 at Vegas.

For those of a suspicious nature, I have no connection with Rigby other than they are working on one of my guns.

Milo.

Milo,

Indeed I was talking to Diggory last week and he said he had Ben into see them and that they are really focusing on their Mauser auctioned rifles going forward.

I'm sure they will also work on other stuff but I thought it was great to see Rigby working to their heritage in the correct manner again.

It's a great name and I hope that they can revive the brand to the levels it deserves.

Rgds,
K

Hi Kiri,

Nip round and try the new rifles. Marc gave me the new .416 with a traditional stepped barrel and square bridge magnum action and it is a peach. A very good price as well compared to the market.

Best wishes,
Milo.

Milo, I will do.

It will be interesting to see how the market reacts. Having spoke to them they are very anxious to rejuvenate the brand image and values to their historical quality values.

I'm keen to see the product.

Aren't they still using GMA barreled actions?

Hi Steve,

Would have to clarify with Marc Newton as I would not wish to give duff information so I will drop him an email and ask. From the conversation we had whilst fiddling with the rifle, I understood that, as Rigby is now part-owned by Mauser, that what I was looking at was a brand new Mauser-made action dedicated to Rigby.

Will check and report.

Milo.

Marc is quite the gentleman. Clara and I spent a day with him when we were in the UK recently. It was quite an honor and a priviledge to "coon paw" so much history and fine guns.

Apologies for what may be a "simple" question... what is a stepped barrel in terms of a bolt action sporting rifle?

Saw one of the rifles today at DSC. For about 12K it is a hell of a bargain and is nearly identical to the Rigby of old.
Thanks, Mark, for the show.

You right handed shooters have a whole gamut of choices in firearms & as a lefty I am quite envious.
Heck, I can't even get a Rem. 700LH in 308 unless I go for the lesser quality SPS model.

Thanks, Milo. That is great news.

The California so-called "Rigby" rifles always skeeved the hell out of me.

Nice to see that things are now back on the right track! tu2

Marc has really been trying to revamp what made Rigby, Rigby and went right back to the original designs. 12K is a bit less than I expected for the Big Game model.

Hi Cal,

Glad you got to see it.
I deliberately did not mention the pricing in my original post as, once you handle the rifle, it does indeed appear to be a bargain. I hope they sell lots and look forward to receiving my own .275.

Milo.

As per the images above, the diameter of the tube steps down forward of the barrel band. This achieves strength where it is needed whilst improving balance and handling characteristics.
The .416 I played with was a touch long in the stock for me but I was very impressed and intend placing an order for a stalking rifle once the general excitement dies down.

Had the pleasure of seeing the new "Big Game" rifle at DSC. Had a great visit. The quality and workmanship has returned to the Rigby name! The basic model is reasonably priced.
Real Mauser made Magnum Actions!
Thanks to Tip, Mark and Lee for the visit!

When I first viewed this image .. coffee ,... it did not resemble a GMA.

then upon reading it indicated that its built on a Prechtl action.

Rigby took a lot of orders at the show and the team was very grateful for the support and interest that they received.

Hopefully they can now get on with fixing my gun!

The Rigby representative was promoting the unfinished .470 at 55,000 GBP's and that petite and gorgeous 28 bore at the same price. The .470 was not a Rising Bite but they stated that they were going to begin manufacturing them shortly.
