The reintroduction of both Lion and Leopard on quota is a courageous decision by the Zambian Government and I applaud them.

I with some high ranking community representatives met with ZAWA and formally requested that my allocated leopard quota of one should be doubled.

This was met with a flat refusal and a warning that the Leopard I take will be scrutinised by the authorities and if deemed under aged I may face severe consequences. Same goes with Lion.

Shit I was impressed.

Hang in there Andrew. Find a research student volunteer form the local wildlife college/university to set up a camera trap survey to document the leopards in your area and then provide the results to ZAWA with your request for a review of the quota. Or invite an existing NGO that does camera trap surveys. Not sur ein Zambia but here in Tz we did this with WCS very successfully.

Great to hear Andrew. Perhaps Zimbabwe will follow suit.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I LOVE IT!

Telling those bloody idiots at Lionaid to take a hike is the most sensible and correct thing to say.

Can Mr. Kat show us what he has actually done - in all his life - to further ANY conservation effort?

Instead of bleating like a bloody stuck pig each time some of us actually do something useful for conservation??

Good for her. Told them good. The " Aerial " survey of lions and leopards might be stretching it a little. Wink
