This year I had booked a hunt in Hammond with CM Safaris. As everyone here is aware things turned upside down in tha Save this year, so the Hammond would not work. Buzz, and Milea had an alternate plan however. We went up to the Dande instead. I wanted to hunt Buffalo and with Blake Wilhelmi as my PH I had a great hunt. We were in Buff every day, and turned down bulls every day till the 8th day when I shot a great old Dagga Boy. Of my 12 trips to Africa this one of my best hunts, and definatly my best buffalo hunt. Thanks to Blake, Buzz, and Miles.

Heck, it's Zimbabwe, who knows about tomorrow let alone next year.
By the way, I also have a safari booked for 2013 in the Save, all we can do is wait & see.

True..Larry Shores, who is in Sango right now, thought things would get worked out possibly even later this year ...but time is getting short for 2012.

Bob

Only a pleasure! Certainly Paul and I could not have asked for a nicer hunting companion to share camp with!

Well done also on a truly magnificent old dugga Boy! We have just aged him and in the last 5 years he is the second oldest bull coming in at 16 years old- I dont think in the wild they get much older then that!!!!!!Hopefully see you at the shows! Cheers buzz

Hi Matt

Basically we extract and measure both left and right first mandibular molar(first permanent molar) (m1). We measure the crown height with digital engineering calipers to the nearest 0.01mm. So each molar will have 4 measurements (total 8 measurements for the two teeth). The corresponding ages were then calculated using the regression equation / graph established by Taylor (1988).

We have been doing that for the last few years and it is great to show us a trend on whether we are shooting better buff ( in my eyes better means older as I have very little interest in inches) and also which Phs are consistently shooting acceptable bulls!! Cheers Buzz

Damn man - that sounds great!!! I wonder if I could adapt that for our buff as it sounds like they have a very similar max age.

More research!!! Smiler

Thanks

Buzz...are you good to go at Hammond? Seems like several Save areas have opened up recently if you look thru the recent posts under the lengthy Save thread.

Safari 2

We are good to go with the Shenks who own Hammond BUT to date that means very little and They/We do not have a hunt permit for the remainder of this year yet and nothing for next year- negotiations are under way - however I have to say, at the risk of been called a pessimist- that I feel that we are far from a complete solution in the Save. I hope I am proved wrong!
