I just read that Gary Sitton has passed on. I don't know how many articles on African hunting he published, but the man had a talented pen. He had not published anything recently and I heard he was having difficulties. My deepest condolences to his family.

Gary will be greatly missed. Unfortunately, I have not read anything of his since "Hunting Horizons" went belly up, but I always awaited each article he wrote.

I really liked his writing style, not many writers left today that have such a descriptive and thought provoking pen.

Where did you read this sad news?

I read that Gary had passed on the 24 hour campfire forum. I had always admired his writing and then found out he was an iconoclast and did not suffer the politics of publishing gladly. Why is it that talented writers must suffer the indignities of trying to meet the demands of publishers, being politically correct, yet still give us an unbiased, realistic, and accurate view of the hunting world. I am sorry that Gary Sitton died from pancreatic cancer, it must not have been an easy way to go. As a cancer survivor, I know the pain he must have suffered. The Outdoor World has lost one of it's most talented and honest scribes and again my deepest sympathies to those who were clos to him. Jerry Hoover

That's sad, his articles were immensely enjoyable.

I, for one, was away and missed the post. I also was disappointed to hear the news; I had posted in Campfire within the last month or so that I'd hoped he would start writing again soon.

I always liked his writing, but a very famous writer who used to write for Petersen's HUNTING told me Gary suffered from bouts of depression. He pointed that out to me after I mentioned that it struck me that he seemed depressed in some of his later essays. God bless him.

There is a guy who writes for NRA AH who often writes how miserable his on hunts (not sure he even realizes it); sources who know him tell me it is a bit much to endure.
