Just wondered if anyone has or has checked out the new EDG binos from Nikon? They are a Nikon model made at the level of Swaro, Leica, etc. They have the ED (extra-low dispersion) glass that has been in the famous Nikkor camera lenses for years.

I tested a pair of the 10x42 EDG prototypes in Namibia in August, and was truly impressed. One night at dusk, we compared them head to head against a set of Swaro ELs and a set of Leicas, and in clarity, light transmission, etc. they seemed everybit as good if not better than the others. I got a set to keep a week or so ago, and I am even more impressed. They are comfortable, have two different sets of eye cups, and seem very rugged. The focus and adjustments are really easy to use and lock in.

Not trying to do a sales job, just wanted to know if anyone had seen or has them and their thoughts. I am truly impressed with these glasses and look forward to taking the new finished version on a hunt. They come in 7x42, 8x32, 8x42, 10x32, 10x42.

I think they are in that $1700-2000 range like all the other good ones...That will depend on whether you get 7, 8, 10 power and the objective size. They aren't cheap, but I am a huge believer in good glass and I think these are about as good as they get. I have been shooting photos on a Nikkor lens for a long time, and I am a big fan of the ED glass...

I saw them at Bass Pro and they seem as good as the other high end Binos. I just would have a hard time paying that much for Nikons. I must be a snob Smiler
