We are happy to announce that Mr John J. Jackson from the well respected Conservation Force has agreed to host/ represent DAPU.

Myself and Myles have always wanted DAPU to be clear and transparent where by people who kindly donate money will have the confidence that their money will be spent on conservation related exercise and not squandered on totally unrelated issues !

Donations are also tax deductible and can be sent by mail to:

Conservation Force
P.O. Box 278
Metairie, LA 70004-0278
USA

Or on the web at:

http://www.conservationforce.org/donate.html

When a donation is made Conservation Force hold the sum in trust, send a postal acknowledgement to the donor for his income tax deduction purposes and only release the monies to us for anti poaching and related activities.

I would like to thanks Mike Core for helping us set this up and also for all the generous donations to date. Today we employed a person to run DAPU in the valley. He is in charge of all the Scoutes and daily running of DAPU! Thanks again Folks all the best Buzz

This is also an extremely efficient way to go as Conservation Force only takes 5% of donations for administrative costs which is extraordinarily low.

Recently made a donation to DAPU through Conservation Force. Conservation Force makes this a quick and simple process. Good choice Buzz and Myles to set up DAPU this way!

Super news Buzz. Conservation Force is a great organization for conservation and linking with John will definitely raise your profile and the awareness of what you and Myles are doing in Zim!

Is there an annual statement that is posted somewhere that breaks down expenditures, including conservation monies?

I just wanted to confirm that I have received back an official letter from Conservation Force acknowledging my recent contribution to DAPU. Their DAPU portion is officially up and running with all the proper accounts established. Contributions are now tax deductible.

That 5% figure is just the percentage taken by Conservation Force for administrative costs when receiving contributions for projects like DAPU. It was quoted to me directly by John Jackson. If you gave a $ 100 donation to Conservation Force designating DAPU as the beneficiary then Conservation Force would pass $ 95 of it directly on to DAPU and you would have a legitimate charitable deduction of the entire $ 100 to claim on your tax return. I don't know what the overall administrative costs of running Conservation Force are. They have a nice website where you might be able to pick up that info. It has been recently updated to included a link to DAPU.

You should review the website information that is posted on the CMS website regarding the DAPU. There is a tremendous amount of information available there. I know that Buzz and Myles are trying to be very transparent in how the DAPU is being operated. I am pleased to say that the SCI Houston Chapter has made a donation to support their efforts.

I agree completely with Mike's statement. Not only that, but I think all of us who have hunted with them over the past couple of years have seen a marked positive effect of their efforts. Ele poaching was getting out of hand in 2012 but this past year, after they started the DAPU officially, 2013, I think Buzz stated only 2 poached eles were found in their concessions. It's a good cause.

Thanks for the nice comments Gentlemen. Donations through CF as well as privately enabled DAPU to work through the off season which has proved very effective as we have now done 3 elephant hunts which equals alot of mileage covered and we have not found a single ele carcass so far!

With the donations we have also employed Siraaj Gardner who is a very enthusiastic youngster to over see the running of DAPU and he has had an immediate positive effect. Alot of time so far this season has been getting many of our 28 scouts into the fields chasing crop raiding elephant out the fields at night. What this means is that this year we have not had to shoot a single PAC elephant which was our objective- in the old days National Parks/ Council would approved on average 7 ele bulls through out the Dande to be shot as PAC a year.

We have also this season collected 100 snares shot 2 dogs and confiscated 2 duggaouts with nets fishing illegally. Siraaj and one stick are sitting on an ambush as I type this as Rich Tabor who is hunting now ( just shot a 50lbs) found a dead impala in a snare so we hope for a positive out come on that. We are up dating our DAPU section on the website quarterly so you can follow the success of DAPU there. You can also see our budget and if , as a contributor, want a breakdown of costs etc we will happily supply!!!

All the best Buzz

Buzz, I suspect most of our friends in the Northern Hemisphere think a stick is something that used to be part of a tree...

Buzz,

I have tried to donate a few dollars through online submission shown at the web page of Conservation Force. This is not possible from my computer as I am being warned about security certificate. killpc

I am not neither able to use the form showed at the web page of Conservation Force as we do not use checks anymore in Europe. ( This is old time US bank systems and it is not tax deductable either in my country ! )

Should I use the normal bank wire details of the CMS bank account to wire a small fund ?

Morten
