Croc & Hippo?

I originally planned to hunt hippo/croc for my first African safari but that changed to leopard as I was concerned about the future of importing any big cats. I would like to hunt the Caprivi but wonder about where else I might hunt these two now that Moz is off the list and Zambia is closed? Where if I add a buffalo? Would I get a better rate for two hunters with the same animals on request? This site and your experience were invaluable in planning my previous hunt and I am sure they will be for this one also. Thanks in advance!

Dave

There is still hunting in Zambia on game ranches and a select few GMA's. Plus, all indications are that it should reopen next year.

We will see, of course.

Zimbabwe. Kariba. Plenty of very good Hippo & Croc there. Can do a Buffalo on a 12 day hunt.

i agree. Lake Kariba in the Omay North would be an excellent choice. Martin Pieter's area has a lot of both. i could have shot both almost from the camp!

Chufiti in either Chewore or Dande is a great option - right on the Zambezi and close to Moz and the Cabora Bessa inlet. Their quota on croc might be sold a season in advance though.

AR's DVS has a Luangwa concession that can offer all in what to be one of the most scenic and remote parts of the Luangwa valley.

Hi there, yes I still have crocs, hippo and buffalo available. The Luangwa river is famous for these species. As a newcomer to AR I will try and find out how to post pictures and my package.

Derick (new member) is the operator/Ph in one of the few concessions that can hunt in Zambia this year. The concession is West Petauke opposite my old haunt Munyamadzi.

DVS is a great hunter and he love nothing more than to walk up cantankerous old buffalo up in the foothills of the escarpment.

The Luangwa is stiff with trophy Hippo and Croc.

I agree with jdollar, Martin Pieters would give you an excellent hunt in the Omay North. When my son and I were there in Aug. 2011, we saw an incredible number of hippo and crocs. My son took a huge hippo, on that trip.

Saw lots of hippo and croc last July in Chewore North. Pretty good buff hunting, too.

Of course if one wants to hunt Dande, you'll need to book with Charlton McCallum Safaris. Not Chifuti. And I highly recommend CMS.
