Headed over for my first trip in July. This forum has me pretty paranoid about the airport in Joberg. My bow case looks just like a gun case for two rifles. I'm not bringing any guns but should I expect problems/delays with looking like I'm bringing in a firearm.

Shouldnt be any problems, just open it if someone wants to see it. You can also count on that the bag will be picked up by security and they will tell you to go to SAP but then tell them it´s a bow.

Would that put me in that huge line of people clearing their guns?

Dilman You could contact Air 2000 anne@air-2000.com and get Anne's opinion on whether their service would be useful to you. At the least the $75 fee will buy you someone meeting you on the jetway and walking you through customs, helping with luggage and delivering you to the people waiting for you plus PEACE OF MIND! Dilman- I have had that problem in both Jberg and Windhoek. It can cost you some time. This year we are using Optima for our arrivals and some transfers in country and to Moz. Mostly to ensure our gear is on the flight to Moz when we are done in RSA.For the price you can't beat what they do. If you do a search here for Optima and/or Air 2000(did I get that right?)contact info should come up.

My first trip to Africa I was so paranoid I almost bought a surfboard case to hide my rifle case – and my son was so paranoid that every time I went to check in the rifles, he would disappear behind an airport column about 50 yards away, convinced I would be hauled off in handcuffs for carrying arms into an airport. It took me a while to figure out what he was up to, but when I called him on it, he fessed up. Since then I’ve learned that I actually get treated with a little more respect when I’m carrying my rifles. S.
