Folks, If you have not made a plan for Africa in '07 this might be what you are looking for. Barrie Duckworth's Mokore Safaris has 2 openings for 2-3 plains game hunters at prime dates. By now about all the members know the quality and quantity of plains game available on the Save. Kudu, eland, bushbuck, wildebeest, zebra impala, warthog and all the usual Zim animals abound on the Save. Additionally all the "big 5" are present. Elephants and buffalo are commonly seen and lions are roaring at night. This is not the usual ranch hunt. Accommodations are very nice in cinder block and thatched chalets with en suite baths. These hunts are for rifle or bow with well established hides etc. for the archers Dates: 10-16 August or 21-30 Sept 1X1 $400 PER DAY 2X1 $350 PER DAY Extras: Dip/pack, 2% Zim Tax, Mars and $600 road transfer RT from Harare. I hunted in the Save twice in the late nineties and was seriously considering a trip for next year.My man on the ground in Zimbabwe told me that I was likely to be dissapointed because things had changed dramatically since I was there previously. He said that the land grabbers were taking more and more of the acreage every year.Poaching was a very serious issue and that many smaller species such as bushbuck had taken a big hit as a result. He said that while a gun hunter might be able to have decent success animal densities were too low to offer the same opportunity that I had when there previosly. I would love to go back but was scared away by this report. Can you comment? I would love to go back to this area once more as my previous hunts there were two of the best hunts I have ever had. We seldom get to choose But I've seen them go both ways And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory Than to slowly rot away!

eyedoc, There are a heck of a lot of variable in what you said about the Save. It is no secret that "War Vets" have been there in some areas for years now but I think you will find if you do a search here on the Save you will come up with many very happy hunters who have safaried there recently. I'm spending my own money there in Sept/Oct for plains game and I'm very fortunate to be in a position where I could hunt in a great many places but I'm choosing the Save. Start a thread on comments about the Save if you really want to know the situation. I'm sure you'll get quite a number of responses. Mark MARK H. I hunted in the SAVE with Brooklands Safaris in March and again in Oct-Nov 2006. The amount of game there is awsome. They have some big cape buff there too. Lots of elephants. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Mark, after an upcoming Buffalo hunt, I am considering going back to Africa to try to pick up a bunck of the smaller secondary species such as Baboon, Jackal, Bushpig, Civet, etc. as well as possibly and Eland. I like the idea of going to the Save which still has the Big 5 even though I won't be hunting them. In your experience (or anyone elses) does the area hold many of these oddities? G L, I'm going to the the Save specifically for those oddities you mentioned plus porcupine, genet, serval or any of the other small mostly nocturnal species we can find. I'm also looking for a very big waterbuck and a Limpopo bushbuck. Mark MARK H. eyedoc For your interest Sir. Here are some of the trophies taken on the last hunt of 2006, with Roger Whittall Safaris on Humani in the Save Valley. This was a ten day bow hunt. Proof is in the pudding eh? Of course there is poaching here, as there is poaching throughout Africa. Believe me when I say we have it contained. I am personally responsible for off season anti-poaching on 130 000 acres of the Save Valley. Mark, thanks for making people aware of the real situation in the Save. Mokore are our immediate neighbours, and I know that anyone who hunts there will enjoy success and have a great time. I hunted buffalo in the Chewore concession and plains game on the Save with Mokore Safaris in September 2006. Gary Duckworth was my PH. Game was very abundent, accomodations & food was great and the staff was wonderful. I took several great trophies including a 41" Buffalo, a 28 3/4" Blue Wildebeast Bull and my favorite, a 17+" Bushbuck. There is a problem with poaching, but not enough to preclude me from planning another hunt with Mokore in 2010. In my opinion, you can't go wrong hunting with them and you'll have the time of your life. Rick Isler

Thanks to everyone who replied.Mark, please do not think this was meant to cast a bad light on your offer. As I said in my first post , two of the best hunts I ever had were at Humani and I was seriously considering another hunt there next year.I am glad to hear that some good hunting is still to be had there. I really need one of those big leopard that call the Save home.LOL What time of year is best for taking one of those? We seldom get to choose But I've seen them go both ways And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory Than to slowly rot away!

eyedoc, No problem! I think the comments from the other members have answered your concerns. As for the leopard Mokore at least is 90% plus on mature toms 130-180 plus pounds over the whole season. So perhaps one time is not significantly better than another. If I had to pick a date it would probably be May-July. Mark MARK H. I have seen a lot of "them small critters" in the SAVE. I took a nice caracel and a big honeybadger. I also have seen bushpig, and porkypine. One other one that I can't remember right now, and I have seen wild dogs there several times. It is a great area to hunt. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
