First of all, my "question mark" key doesn't work, so sorry about the poor puncuation. I did a PACbull ele hunt with Buzz Charlton earlier this year and had a great time and got a bull after 2 1/2 hours tracking, despite my being on crutches. I forgot to ask Buzz about what the local communities got (apart from the meat). Are they supposed to get the trophy fee. Do they really get it. Do they get the money from the ivory and hide. What is the current price of ivory from a legal source such as this. Are there any other benefits for the locals. regards, mike

The local Rural Distric Council will either get the trophy fee or 40% of the total fee for the hunt - depending on what the deal was.

Ganyana, Did one of these hunts last year and was told that the council got all the meat, Ivory if there is any and the hide. That leaves the hunter with photos and memories. Also I noticed that not all operators charge the same fee for elephant cows especially if the hunt is done in conjunction with say a buffalo or leopard hunt. This was my experience but dont really know the rules or laws in Zimbabwe. Seems like it depends on whether Parks is involved or not? Mabe there is a base trophy fee and the operator can add on more if he wants to. Dont really know but I would be interested in finding out.
