I tried boots - a couple of different kinds. Tried walking and athletic type shoes. Finally took a hint from my PH and took some soft soled Teva sandles. Can't imagine wearing anything else. Comfortable, cool, no problems with rocks in my shoes or seeds in my socks. Try them, you won't go back.

A decision might have to do something with foot size.If you have a small foot then you could go with a traditional hikeing boot, especially if there are thorns and rocks. If you got a big foot you may find these too heavy and prefer breathable athletic or running shoes.Something in between would be a lightweight hikeing boot like the kind Asolo makes.

Thanks alot fellows. I appreciate the insight/experience. I really like the looks of the Courteney Selous. I just wish I could find them closer to home so I could try them on. But from what ya'll are telling me, it sounds like I'll be fine with them. I usually wear a EE or EEE or just a wide width in most shoes/boots, except Merrell jungle mocs, I wear their mediums. Will Westley Richards refund my money if they don't fit me? I've never done any business with them, but I do know they make some fine weapons.

Thanks,

David

One other thing, how should I order Courteneys. 1/2 size larger? Any suggestions. I'm wearing Georgia wellingtons in size 10 wide as I type, and they're perfect.

Thanks again,

David

I have some Hi Tec Altitude II's that I love. havent been to africa but most other places. they come in wide width and have nubuck uppers and kick ass soles. Just be sure to oil the outer part of the tongue as the laces will squeak a little on them. Other than that, they are light and very very comfy for us with box feet.

X2 - I just picked up a pair of Courteney Selous boots at SCI and have them on this very minute. I wear a size 9 in most all footwear and the Courtneney is no exception. I bought a couple of pair of their socks as well and really like them. Break in is coming along just fine. Their main office/store is in Montana now I believe. Give them a shout and ask about their return policy straight up.

Mine are headed to Namibia in May and am looking forward to getting some African dust and dirt on them to make them official.

bought a pair of Courtney's made of elephant hide in Vic Falls 5 years ago for $125 and they are the most comfortable boots i have ever worn. 4 safaris later they still look good enough to wear on the plane ride over and still carry on in the field. they fit my wide foot perfectly

Is this the same Larry Sellers from AZ that used to rep archery products?

Where in Namibia are you going in may? I'm head that way myself in May.

I had a pair of Courteney's (not the Selous) that didn't seem to fit my feet very well. I called and talked to Chad and told him what was going on and sent them back. They applied the original purchase price of the first pair of boots towards a pair of Selous, and I haven't been sorry in the least bit. They stood behind the boots 100%. Call Westley Richards in Montana and talk with Chad. I know that he will help you. In the long run, IMHO, you will not be sorry in purchasing the Courteney's.

You may want to get boots that are light weight and comfortable because you may walk for hours on some hunts. I have used Danner 8 inch Pronghorn boots with thinsulate, and I have been happy with them. They are light and comfortable with nice cushion and not hot. I walked several times for 7 plus hours, and they were comfortable. I bought them at Bass Pro for around $100.

On our upcoming safari to Namibia, my dad and I are both planning to wear our Cabela's Pinnacle 17" zip-up, un-insulated, gore-tex, scent-lok boots. These are the same ones we use here in Texas and we both love them. They are very comfortable and lightweight, plus them being snake proof offers great protection against thorns.

I have enjoyed Chippewa's gum soled boots. There are several styles. Nice for stalking. Quiet. I think I got mine from Cabelas.
