Okay guys.....it's been a while since I've posted anything on this subject. As some of you remember, we (my family and I) had our very first safari booked a couple years back and had to cancel due to some time constraints with my dad's job. It was very hard for all of us, and it was an amazing disappointment. I truly felt like the man upstairs just didn't want me to hunt Africa for one reason or another, this being the second safari we had to cancel.

But it looks like there is some good news on the horizon. We have some property that looks like it's getting ready to sell, and when that happens.....we will hopefully be booking another hunt!! I am bound and determined to get my ass to Africa!! I've been hoping and dreaming about it since I was a little guy. I am 21 years old now, and I think all the disappointment and anticipation I've gone through will only make me appreciate this trip that much more.

So, I haven't done much research in the last couple years.....so I figured I would ask you guys, the experts. Is Namibia still THE place to go for our first safari? I'm guessing it is. Any particular outfitters you can recommend would be great. I know Vaughn Fulton is spoken highly of.....as well as a few others.

We will more than likely plan a trip for 14 days and the trip will be both my parents and myself. My parents are only interested in taking a couple animals. I would like to focus on these species, with the first four being my top priorities:

1. Kudu
2. Mtn. Zebra
3. Gemsbok
4. Giraffe
Hartebeest
Impala
Blesbok
Springbok
Klipspringer
Duiker

Any recommendations you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to reading your replies.

I'd say that if you were REALLY determined to go to Africa, you would have already made the neccessary arrangements by now, with several years passing up till now... Especially now that you are 21. If you are that determined to go, THEN GO!!!

It seems that you make this same post about every 6 months or so on here..

Namibia continues to be a great loacale for a 1st safari and offers all on your list.

If your really serious I suggest African Twilight Safaris.
They can with a little travel offer everything you want.
This outfit can offer a great first time family safari.

I don't know why you think I make this same post every 6 months on here. I can't even remember the last time I posted an original thread in this section. I guess I just don't understand the point of your post.

Where might I find a money tree in the Southeast Texas area? I am a full-time college student and I simply cannot even come close to affording a safari on my own right now. I'm concentrating on keeping my grades up to finish my degree, and finding a career. Even if I could afford it right now, I think my dad would probably disown me if I went without him. He's been waiting longer than I have to go.

Thank you for the encouragement, nonetheless.

Jan Oelefse at Mt. Etjo. First class operation.

A bit more spendy, but a fantastic hunt.

PM me with any questions.

Careful of the African bug, though. Once bitten, you will experience never ending compulsions to return!!

Hope you have a great hunt.

I hunted with Peter Sohrada several years ago and did exceptionally well. If big Kudu are what you are after I highly recommend him. PM me for more info if desired. You may want to consider spending a few bucks for the Hunting Reports: http://www.huntingreport.com/h...%20Greater%20Hunting

Wade,

I think this is your 3rd go around on this. Right? Must be disappointing to get that close and have it fall through.

Anyway if your in the early stages of planning you might want to consider a wider variety of opportunities than just Namibia.

Don't get me wrong Namibia is great and we have a couple of outfits there that offer trouble free hunts at great prices. One outfit can offer you all the species you listed, you'd have the whole ranch to yourselves and its low fenced if that is important. On the other hand in some places you can book a plains game hunt in an area with all the Big 5 present. Having big cats, buffalo and elephant around while your pursuing your kudu etc. adds a whole other dimension to a plains game hunt. It makes it a classic safari experience that you won't get otherwise.

Another destination worth looking at might be Botswana in the Kalahari. The outfit I just hunted with there has great hunting, super trophy quality, accommodations your family would simply love. A totally seamless hunt at a very fair price.

Contact me if you'd like anything further on any of the above.

I second Peter Sohrada's Okawaka. Peter still lives on the property but is retired from active hunting. His farm manager and PH is Willem Serfontein. Beutiful facilities and lots of game. Part of the farm is on the small Waterberg mountain and is across the highway from the Waterberg Plateau park so game viewing can be part of the agenda. Check it out.

Although I can reccomend a half dozen or so great phs in Namibia I would be looking elswhere at this point. Until this NAPHA pissing contest gets resolved I am hunting elsewhere. I doubt I change my mind at least until after the conventions. I plan on talking to the people I know as well as the NAPHA representatives who are there. It remains to be seen if NAPHA will openly discuss this or not. If I were them I probably would not be looking forward to some of the questioning.

See this is why I ask questions. What's going on with NAPHA? I haven't been keeping up with any of this stuff lately.

We would suggest checking out Hunters Namibia Safaris. Joof and Marina Lamprecht run a wonderful operation, with comfortable and elegant accommodations and fabulous hunting. We loved our safari with them and have kept in touch ever since. Marina has recently . written a paper on hunting in Namibia which will be part of a manual to be used as a reference document at the UN. There is a link to that paper on HNS's home page: www.huntersnamibia.com.

Contact us for details if you wish.

Terry, How are Danie and Ansie doing these days? Is Mathew still their tracker? Are the kids at home or off at University? I hunted with them 5yrs ago and had a wonderful time. Bob

Hello everyone! I'm new to AR but have over 1,000 posts on 24HourCampfire. I've been away from hunting and shooting sites for a while but I'm going to get back to it.
This is a good place to start.
As far as PHs to hunt with in Namibia, I can wholeheartedly recommend Hunters Namibia Safaris. Joof and Marina Lamprecht run a first-class operation and are great people to spend time with. They have some of the most beautiful hunting areas that I have ever seen, an abundance of trophy-quality animals (including all of the species you list), elegant accommodations, and delicious food. Everything about HNS is as good as it could be.
I have hunted with Joof three times and will certainly hunt with him again. On my second hunt, I took my wife for our honeymoon. It was her introduction to hunting and the trip was a huge success. She is ready to go back.
Check out the Hunters Namibia Safaris website (one of the best in the business) or, better yet, meet Joof and Marina at the Dallas Safari Club show or the SCI show in Reno. They are the best of the best.

Attend the Dallas Safari Club and visit with some of the outfitters. Dallas is right up the road from where you go to college and admission is cheaper that a night on the town clubbing in college. You can get bitten by the African bug there, but going to africa creates the addiction that I am not looking for a cure for! Point of information,, I have no ties to the organization,, just know it would be affordable and close for you to attend..

I and two friends (One 70 years old on his first safari) just returned from a wonderful trip with Kobus Honiball, Africa Thirstland Safaris. Kobus has something extra to offer-aircaraft. He flies a Cessna 210. In addition to hunting we did a day of flight seeing to Etosha, Swakomund and some other points. His charter rates are hourly and very reasonable. We hunted two loctions, which was much more convenient with the plane. He runs a great operation with a deluxe but intimate lodge.
