Best Zim buff area ?

With the odd exception you are not going to get the horn spread in Zim that you will in Northern Tanzania. In most of the government concessions 40" is a GOOD average. In many CAMPFIRE areas more like 37-38" Save is generally on a par with the better parks areas.

Of course every year somebody takes a nice "jaws" Buff 45" up in a Campfire area just to prove me wrong, but we are talking "averages"

I think Ganyana hit it on the head as usual. My thought would be to go into the area that interests you the most. Your PH will have some strong ideas and some of that is his personal preference based upon experiences. If you really would like to see the Kariba area or the Save area or whatever, then try to go there.

Your PH is going to be able to find you buffalo in any reasonable area that he has access to so you should at least consider areas that are particularly interesting to you. I'm not really into the inches thing anyway. I'm just looking for good representative mature animals and the more character they have the better...plus the memories are in the stalk and shot vs. the size of the trophy.

Thanks folks for your response, I am just taking 5 at work and enjoying your feed back.

Youkon you are absolutley correct, it is the hunt and not the tape measure, but you have to be impressed with that beaut from new guy.

I suppose that one of the reasons I posted this thread was also to gauge the quality from the different areas and also how likley it would be to connect with a good representitive buff.

I will be looking at a trip to hunt one of these big guys and I want to do it right the first time as the budget only stretches so far.

Chewore is my favorite and I had a client shoot a 47 inch buff there a couple years ago. Most buff are 35 to 38 there, and I would not pass up a 38 inch buffalo in Zimbabwe these days., but a 38" buffalo is a beautiful animal if he has boss and some drop. that equals to a inch on each horn less than a 40 incher, and on the wall I defy anyone to tell me the difference.
