Nick,
So you didn't get Mustafa Bilal to take the photos in a studio, eh?

That is a gorgeous gun. It comes through in your photos just fine. Wow! Thanks for sharing photos of this beautiful 505.

For those of us who cant monitor this site regularly, would you post some details on the rifle.

What make action, barrel, quarter rib, sights etc.

Who did the metal work and who did the stock work.

What kind of accuracy are you getting? How about the recoil?

When are you taking it to Africa?

I almost forgot.

What brand of dies and brass do you use? And how about some of your loads?

This is gonna sound really stupid (not a first from me [Smile] ), but what exactly is a "quarter rib?" I assume it is what the first picture is of. Why do they call it a "quarter rib?"

Well Kyle, cause it aint a full or a half rib, its a quarter rib. Duh.

Seriously, it's that thing the flip up rear leaves usually sit on. I don't know exactly why they call it a rib. I do know that some Ruger #1's have a half rib on them. Most shotguns have a, you guessed it, Vented rib, full.

Come and see me when I get back on duty next Wednesday. Or, we will see You and Yours at the Memorial service on the square around 8:30 that same day.

Glen.

Will do, Glen. I kinda figured it was called a "quarter rib" because it was about a quarter of the length of the barrel.

Im quite sure its a CZ rifle. It seems to still have the original trigger.

Please post who did the work. I saw once such a piece in Austria.

Nick,

I think the 505 is like the big version of the 375 H&H. However, it takes the charisma to a higher level than than the 375. It bypasses the 416 Rigby, 450 Rigby, 500 A2, 500 Jeffrey and makes the 585 Nyati people "wonder at it all".

The 505 packs the biggest combination of practicality and pizzaz of any caliber. But it is a road that requires "desire" to get there.

Imagine comparing the 505 to the 416 Remington. Well, one of them is easy [Smile]

I think PC has the desire to do the 505 Gibbs.

By the way, I see that Deofdog is about the place but has not replied to the thread I started addressed to his/her name. I fucking hate anti gun people or people that are pro Australian Gun Laws.

Thanks All, for the favorable review.

DB Bill - They're only 40" ... a number I seem to be stuck on lately. I desparately want a mid-forties bull but only if he has the right configuration. It may never happen ....

Craftsman - CZ-550 action, 570 "X" & 600 Super Solids over 119 grains of RL-15 w/ 4 grains of Dacron filler. Federal 215 Gold Match primers in Horneber brass. Truvelo barrel (R.S.A.) and Grade 5 Turkish walnut. Paul Nothnagle and staff of Kroonstad, South Africa did all the work. Paul is a fine gunmaker and a fine fellow.

Thanks for the info. And I agree Paul is a fine gunmaker. And a fine looking Buff. I really like horns that sweep down low like that.

Boy that's a beefy looking gun! I like it a lot. I recognize that action and floorplate.

Another Buff bites it from a CZ.

Wendell,
Thanks, Wendell but it's really not that beefy ... it just looks 10 pounds heavier in a photograph! [Wink]

Nickudu, I just recieved a sample case in .505 gibbs and it really is a very nice looking case. I would love to build one one day, it's got appeal to it.
