Mark,
While I can't afford this hunt, it was one I found very interesting when speaking with Jonathan at SCI. I though it could use more exposure. Can you tell us a little bit about Mahenya and past success on trophy bulls?

Scott,

Jonathan took one hunt in there last year before bidding for the lease. He took a 64#.
The area has permanent water and the ele's move back and forth from that water. As I said 50# is a reasonable expectation but the adjacent Gona Rhe Zou National Park has some huge bulls so the chance for a very big ele is there. Mahenya is only 2 hours from the Save so a full bag safari to include elephant, cats, hippo, croc, buffalo and all the indigenous plains game of Zim can be hunted on one safari with not much moving about. You very seldom if ever find good game densities and good trophy quality for so many different species availalbe on any one safari as you do here with the Save and Mahenya combined.

If I could hunt elephant anywhere in Zim, it would be close to Gona Rhe Zou. That place is legendary...if for nothing else, just to get a feel for the place that Richard Harland wrote about so eloquently. Also, the ele there can be quite cheeky which has its own allure!

Mark, isn't this the area that Dudley Rogers had until this year? I was hunting with Dudley in 2006 in Gokwe and we nearly moved down there in the midst of the hunt because we got word that some big bulls were coming out of the park. Ultimately, we elected not to, but through the years he killed some huge bulls there.

Bwana,

I'm not sure about the previous owners but Jonathan Hulme is very excited about having this prime elephant area so close to his areas on the Save. I'll ask about the previous owner.

Bwana,

Dudley did have Mahenya and took a client to a 80 pounder there a couple of years ago. The area is 50,000 acres with a 20km border with the park. Zambezi is putting up a brand new East Africa style camp there with en suite baths etc.
