Poaching has been on the increase country wide and we have certainly seen it in our area been the Dande Safari area. We have continued to support our National Parks efforts to curtail the increase in poaching and have seen some successes lately.

On Todd Williams hunt Parks shot and killed two poachers and caught a third and yesterday Parks shot and killed 2 poachers with 3 sets of tusks. We had arrested one of the poachers 3 times previuosly only to have him slip through the net in the court systems!

I thought that I would mention this in answer to Jytte and Todds hunt reports to say that Parks with a little bit of help and support from operators can and do make a difference- there is hope at the end of the tunnel!!

Buzz, that is great news. One thing that may may have not come across in my hunt report is that IMO, the Parks guys seemed very keen on getting a handle on things. They were very motivated toward catching the poachers and putting a stop to it. I hope this serves as a warning to prospective poachers that Dande is not the area to apply their trade as the rangers there are not screwing around. Poaching in Dande is putting your life on the line!!

Buzz, you guys are good stewards of the land there and I know for a fact that Parks' success is a result of CMS efforts.

Its a shame that the court system is so sieve-like that you have to kill them to stop them.

Its not that I have any issue with shooting them, but really - arrested 3 times, through the courts, and back out there poaching? (of course, the courts in the US seem similar sometimes)

But good work getting them out of the field and out of business

Thanks for your report! I know it's a tough battle when the court system makes it easy on the guilty! Wish you the best.

Good work and necessary, but what were the stats during the "Rhino War" and how did that turn out? IIRC, >95% of poachers were killed and there are practically no rhinos left. To succeed, the demand part of the equation has to be adressed along with the corrupt folks that facilitate the trade.

So what we need here is a daily rate and a reasonable tag fee on poachers.

None of this dart and release crap either.

Bet you would get lots of sign ups to assist the game scouts and with all the stuff we would be bringing over the scouts would be much better equipped.

Ivan can you get me a permit to bring in my FAL?

Great news Buzz.

The combined efforts, with help and support from the operators a must of course, hopefully will continue to send a dead-strong message to (the still) active and potential poachers.

Good for you, good for Parks.
