On testing positive for Covid within three days of leaving for a safari

I am leaving in June for a safari and was wondering if I got a positive test result a couple of days before departure? Do I lose all of the money spent on airline tickets?

I am a bit leery as I had to cancel a safari less than a month before it started in Zambia some years back (illness in the family) and the outfitter said, 'Too bad.' And that safari was 100% paid for in advance.

If I got a double whammy this time around I would probably end up grouchy.

I am sure folks have had similar scenarios.

Check on the trip insurance you purchase.

Some/Most do not cover you if you come down with covid.

Check with your travel agent to see if they offer any travel insurance options for Covid related coverage.

Right now most airlines are allowing you to cancel with a full refund if due to covid.. Thst could change before long though I think..

Be very careful what you do before you leave. Basically quarantine yourself.

Get tested and start quarantining yourself 2 weeks before you leave. Get tested every other day.

It’s what I am doing before leaving on my trip in 2 days. I got tested last week and again today. I took the pcr today - given I know I passed a pcr last week and antigen yesterday.

Keep the surprise to a minimum cause even if you have very mild asymptomatic Covid the airlines will simply not give you a boarding pass.

Also read fine print of any travel insurance you buy.

This is basically what I did before leaving for my hunt last August. I became a hermit for two weeks. I did not do tests every other day though as it would serve no purpose.

I just took the PCR test before the flight, it was negative and I left on my hunt.

If you get tested and maintain a good hermit lifestyle you will be fine. It is tough to do.

Also on you return make sure you have a back up plan. You want to be able to stay one or two weeks if you test positive on return.

Also minimize steps during travel where you risk getting tested again. No stop overs where you need a retest to get back on a connecting flight.

Also don’t make your travel dependent on anyone else. Don’t have wife or kids on your hunting trips till this Covid crap is done.

This basically what I do before any trip. The average incubation time is 5 days. So I'm real careful about any close contact starting two before my trip. Test a week later and then again a couple days before my pcr test. Vitamin C & D, elderberry, zinc, and rest to boost my immune system.

Yea, because getting everyone on the plane sick is a small price to pay for going on your hunt.
