Given the opportunity to hunt the strip during the months of July through November, when would you go? The target is hippo and whatever else the outfitter manages to sell me.

I’ve hunted there 6-7 times. For hippo, it doesn’t really matter as they will be on the various rivers year round. The month becomes important to avoid the heat when hunting. I would go July, August or early September.

Hunting can be good in October, but it can be scorching hot, in the 120s Fahrenheit.

July is too early, as late rains are a risk and can play hell with game movement and getting around.

Mid-August to mid- to late September are best, in my experience.

Need to check with your outfitter for when the various channels in the delta formed by the Linyanti start to fill and may limit some vehicle travel. Seem to recall it's August but long time since I hunted there.

Regards, Tim

Hunted there in October 94’. Hot, hot, hot. Too hot to hunt mid day. Did get an elephant but learned the elephant came over from Botswana more in June/July. We did see a tremendous amount of elephant over in Chobe, Botswana.

Interesting. I was also there in October 94. Stayed at the Chobe lodge. Every evening the Elephant would walk into the river and swim across, trunks up, like a snorkel. Chobe seemed void of vegetation. It was my first trip and I couldn’t understand how animals could survive such conditions.

I was in the Caprivi ( Zambezi region) hunting the second week of October 2019. It was hot, but not unreasonable. And FYI I'm from Canada, not accustomed to heat like some other folks. We encountered many big herds of buffalo and lots of elephant to keep us entertained. Plenty of hippo and crocs in the river. A wonderful experience. If you have a chance to to, just go. Don't sweat the small details.

I like the sound of that. I’ll be there first half of October with my daughter Hailey.
