I have two friends who have gone to Nigeria on business trips within the last few years. The main comment both had on returning was that they would never, under any circumstances, return to Nigeria for any reason. Apparently simple things like getting from the airport to a hotel are major undertakings. Neither felt safe at any time during their stay. Both were there less than a week.

Friend of mine works for Shell and goes there twice a year.

When you arrive at the airport there will be a couple of Limo Drivers holding official Shell logo boards.

Rule Number 1: on NO account approach them...they are kidnappers!

Rule Number 2: on NO account approach them...they are kidnappers! Kidnappers with an insider at Shell.

Your Shell armoured limo and armed escorts will be holding a board with an alpha-numeric code which you have been given.

BA and Virgin air crew are taken to a secure "hotel" to overnight....in an armoured and armed guard bus. The "hotel" has towers, stel doors on rooms, huge walls will razor wire. Basically an nice prison where the crew will be safe from intruders. Needless to say the Lagos route is considered the shortest straw of all!

Anything else you would like to know before you decide to go?

From what I have heard you would have to be 100% mad to go there.

Count experiences, not possessions.

During visits to Nigeria I've talked to a number of people about hunting there and they all say that other than some locals hunting bush meat there isn't any hunting.

Yeah, getting through the airport on arrival is a trip. Extreme patience is required. You need an armed escort going from the airport and going to the airport. And even in the better parts of Lagos, you really don't want to be out after about 8:00 PM without an armed escort. Been there, done that, had the gun in my face.

Never worry about theory as long as the machinery does what it's supposed to do.

Last time what should have been about an hour trip to the airport took SIX! hours.

Nigeria is my least favorite place on the planet to go, course I haven't been every where.

First, do not go to Nigeria. I have made a few trips there and will never return.

Second, the only thing to hunt in Nigeria is a safe place to sleep and work, then go home.

Overall, it is a sewer....

Even if you could hunt and you weren't kidnapped in the process, you probably couldn't export anything.

I notice several of the guys here who travel a LOT for work are saying don't go if you can help it. That's pretty sobering advice.
