giraffe hunting question.
I hunted several times before I ever considered a giraffe as a possible trophy,,probably a big mistake. My rug in my living room from an old stink bull is what everyone notices that visits. I shot mine with a bow, just a typical Matthews bow, switchback,, nothing big game but shot placement is crucial,, their heart is "NOT" where you would think, especially for a whitetail hunter,, you will be gut shooting them if your Ph doesn't show you proper shot placement. And as others have said,, once I decided to shoot one,, they were hard to find and a nearby orphanage was low on rations so I was wanting to help so I felt added pressure. All worked out and I have a grand trophy rug I would not trade for.... Yep they look sort of docile,, but so did the last water buffalo I shot,, big difference in appearance from a 100 yards to 20 feet!! Go after one! and as you would figure,, they can cover a lot of ground with those long legs!

One of my favorite trophies and some of my favorite pictures. They are so big and majestic in my mind. Never thought I would say that but the more I am around them; the more I appreciate them.

It will cost you far far more then any other plains game trophy. But I have to say it is also the best mount I have in my small trophy room.

In the end I could have done another plains game hunt instead of pulling that trigger. But I would probably do it again.

Sorry, should have been more specific. Southeast lowveldt area. About 21/2 to 3 hours south of Bulawayo, near the RSA boarder at Beitbridge.

Steel, I shot a huge old bull last July in the Limpopo....trophy fee $3800 and that's just the beginning of the costs.....I am a taxidermist so I will do my own work as that is what I do...My piece of advise for anyone wanting a giraffe for their trophy room would be to find out the particulars once the bull is on the ground...who will be skinning, how quick will this be done. Hunters have bad slippage problems with their giraffe mounts because they aren't skinned out quick enough. Cheetah Safari's had agreed as soon as I shot a bull they would bring in a trailer and lots of manpower, load and haul to the skinning shed. My bull was skinned and in the salt in less that 3 hours as I did not want to have any slippage problems...something to think about!!!!! I just got notified that my giraffe cape is being shipped to me as we speak...I am really looking forward to this in my trophy room...they are BIG, Beautiful, and something most people don't have....Good luck in your pursuit for yours!!!!!!
